Return of Reckoning

is there something im missing about how to apply an alternate appearance perhaps, well here goes.

i found this cool looking quest reward gun for my engi but obviously the stats are crap compared to the gun im using.
but i do like the look of so i thought id just use it appearance. both weapons have the tooltip saying "alternate appearance available". the difference between them in looks is that the quest reward gun looks like a pistol and the weapon im using is looking like a rifle. however they both fit in the same slot(ranged) so that should not be an issue, it wasnt on live atleast.

so my question is; are certain items like that simply not working atm or do you not alter your appearance from the tab on your character sheet as you did back on live?

the item needs to be usable by your career needs to be the same type and onehander twohander is checked

ahaaaa i just saw that they do differ in the tooltip after all, one is listed as "gun"
while the other is "great gun" (both hands).
