So there's the workaround where you can force an appearance to work using items that can't normally be used as appearance items.

What about items who's appearance slot is not even there? For instance, Bandit Capes. Game says they can't even have their appearance edited. Is there a workaround for this as well, or impossible?

You do the same thing:
Equip a cape that can have it's appearance modified, modify it but don't press yes, equip Bandit's Cape and press yes.

Oh I think you misunderstood me, or perhaps I explained it poorly.

What I meant specifically was, I want to WEAR the Bandit Shroud but use an Echelon Cloak's appearance on it. However the Bandit Shroud doesn't even have the ability to be modified - as the slot itself is greyed out, and says the item cannot have it's own appearance changed by anything.

Then you won't be able to modify the appearance until the devs add the option at a later patch.

Bandit capes don't have appearance change available though so what you posted above won't work. What you posted only works if the item has alternative appearance change available, like stalker gear or rvr gear (bind on pick-up/non-tradable)
