Just logged in to post my Choppa thoughts.
I consider my choppa my main, as it was my first character, and best geared.
he is at RR 53ish.
Pretty much if i do not have someone guarding me and heals, I log off of him and play another character. In RvR without that, it is insta death. Roaming is pointless as I can seldomly 1v1 any other classes. WH eat me alive before I can even get up from knock downs usually. Slayers tend to pretty much flawlessly kill me, and still have 90% hp.
I have spent well over 200 gold on builds to test and try for a period of time, 2H subj and DW. I have settled on DW just for the parry.
I run the spec listed below, and change out a few tactics depending on the situation or group i am with. I run 3 pc BL, 5 pc conq, and the usual jewls.
I personally do not feel Choppa is up to par with other classes. there is very little spec options, its just glass cannon mode, furious choppin, slasha. Zero survivability to choppa no matter how to spec it.
I have a similar geared BG I play in pole dps spec, and I can say it out performs my choppa on all levels. Choppa has a tiny bit higher dmg output but the utility, toughness, and ability to stay alive of the BG make it alot funner to play not dying instantly.

CH/SL are classes to be played with a full setup.
A solo CH/SL is worthless outside the niche 1v1 enounters against primarily badly geared, bad players or those that - for good reason - don't anticipate the odd semi-deftard, BiS geared CH/SL with an inventory full of all the pots you can chug simultaneously, running a spec tailored for said encounters.
A guarded and healed CH/SL is a threat, but manageable.
A guarded, healed, AP and armor debuff, aswell as proc, guard-strip and crit fed CH/SL, in a good group with people that know what they are doing, is as close to a god as you can get, dps/pressure-wise - sure, all classes have their potency drastically increased by a good group, but in CH/SL's case its pretty much hyper-exponential. Consider it the mdps equivalent of BW/Sorcs with a massive boost to dps/sheer pressure (=best CC in the game) and virtually zero downtime if supported properly (unlike CD/avoidance/casttime-cockblocked fireclowns and pointy-ears).
These classes are pretty much meant to be carried, it always was this way ~ imho its fine as it is, its not difficault to form a group... as longer you maintain a fix roster as better the whole thing performs, naturally.
But, yes, I do wholeheartedly agree, they are beyond dysfunctional in 9/10 formats if played solo and not alot fun. Playing a tank, just like you do, is the best decision you can make if you, for whatever reason, can't regularly group. The by far biggest advantage that comes with playing a tank: you get to know people and have an easier time finding groups - if you are smart, you'll build yourself a roster of frendos, babysit them 24/7 and make them repay the favor for your Choppa/Slayer.

This was an extremely well written and well informed post.

Choppa is challenging in solo combat, but possible. You might not win against a backpaddle Slayer (Rampage+Riposte is just stupidly good) but WHs are manageable, most people just fail to pull of the proper tactic against them.
Although I admit, Choppa is not one of the best classes for solo. If you want easymode go play order

It's true that order have the cheesiest easy-win abilities like Rampage, WoDS and Repel blasphemy for example.
However solo choppa is probably possible with the right gear, spec and RR. After all, Matrik manage to solo roam pretty well with his melee SH, so why not a choppa?

Everything is workable to some degree, its just not to be mistaken for being naturally consistent or feasible under optimal conditions. If you manage to pick your fights properly you'll score just fine, but the very moment things exceed your very limited capabilities you'll become freenown ~ its like that on every class, the only difference is the level of gear that is ultimately gating off this format.
I personally would run full on deftard; full BL for the AP drain, or overlord/imperator - whatever gets you the avoidance proc - and plenty of dominator pieces, preferably 2pc redeye for the -ctbc, with a heavy investment into initiative, especially on destro, ontop of defensive scenario weapons ~ its a better investment considering FS is hella expensive and you can, if you even bother with crit (might aswell run the tactic instead), pick more crit with the RR you save from FS.
You will need a strong pot economy either way, tho'.

Yes i did, maybe I am even the most defensive specced choppa right now on the server
mixture of BL+Domi atm, trying to get some Conq together, futile strikes as much as possible, full parry, about 3.4k armor, almost 9k live.
I socketed more offensive now, because i got the impression that toughness doesnt do much.
I even tried the 5piece Domi proc but its complete garbage.
got around 950 str with pot, my damage output is still ok (gotten better when i socket str again).
