Care to back that up? I can do the same thing: "I stack wounds on my shaman and never die but I heal the same if not more than healers who stack willpower because they're too busy running back from spawn"
Read one of Folts previous statements in regards to positioining. And positioning is much more important than armor or toughness stacking. Other than that stack enough wounds not to get oneshotted by WH/WE or m2 SW/SH and you're ok.

And? Nobody said positioning doesn't help a great deal, or detaunts for that matter. It won't save you vs any half-coordinated group. I'm sure it works just fine vs pugs that don't assist or anything of the sort.

They do, and why exactly shouldn't they?
Tbh Futile Strikes are no different from the Trivial blows or Hardy Concessions, that are lameass mythics band-aids implemented to fix the RR80+ outrageous scaling and their poor design flaws. :|
That again I've barely played past the rat patch on live and cant comment much on it, but heard enough about the dreaded "defensive meta".

that's not true about hardly concession,

hardly concession was chaged from armor and resistences from the old renown builder. You need not only to spend renown but you also get heal and damge reduction. the tradeoff it's totally fine.

But there is no counterplay in the renown builder for Hardy Concessions.
Atleast you can try to overcome the Futile Strikes with Opportunist/Sure Shot/Focused Power, even though just partialy.
FS maxed easily at just 34points(-24%) would still provide -10% more crit over the Opportunist maxed at 45points(+14%). If anything Futile Strikes should be brought down to -14% crit for 34points.
Hardy Concessions benefit defensive tanks too much, boosting well timed guard swaps to ridiculous levels and making 1-3-2 RDPS setups obsolete in the long run.
In my opinion both of these should be altered if not now, but at least once t4 is open.

Hardly Concessions isn't even that good, It costs alot, gains little and strips away little. It's not worth it imo.
And Futile Strikes are probobly higher then the crit portions coz of 1: The avreege base chance of getting crit is probobly around 15 and 2: There's tons of more gear with flat crit increase then there are with flat crit reduction.

If you are a dps wp, str and ws
If you are a healer spec wp will and toughness
Parry and disrupt is also welcome.

Dps wp can melt mdps and tanks, with some challenge for wes. Rdps can be killed easily except if you're facing a good kiter.
