So you've posted about having 2 different problems? Interesting. Anyway...

If you're getting this line of code in your error log:

at System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounterLib.get_CategoryTable()

You need to rebuild performance counters.

How to manually rebuild performance counters:

1. Go to start, and type in the search box "cmd". Right click cmd, and run as administrator.

2. Type in the command console, "cd c:\windows\system32", and hit enter.

3. Then type "lodctr /r", and hit enter.

3. It will take a few seconds to perform the command.

Performance counters should be rebuilt. Try loading the game, again.

Just a bit of advice for people with the Error starting: "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'D:\Games\WAR\Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning\WAR.exe' is denied."

I had the same issue, but even after making sure "Read Only" was unchecked on the game folder, I actually had to do this on several individual files within the folder (namely,the .exe's, but you may have to do more).

Now it's working Hope this helps someone.

Also try right clicking on the background whilst in the folder (for some reason, only then did the "Read Only" segment appear as checked, and unchecking it applied the security change to all subfolders and subfiles).

It shouldn't be this complicated to get an old game up and running. I would suggest devs here take a look at Nostalrius WoW's massive emu - or Shadowbane EMU - or Dark Age of Camelot's Genesis EMU - and take notes on how to make this far less complex.

I have all those emu's - easily downloaded off bittorrent. For some reason, this torrent download doesn't even have my WinRAR option for unzipping, goes right to a download folder as soon as I right click the finished torrent. And the testpatch, the war app, does not work. I only tried those since the auto loader doesn't work either.

Seems rather silly. Hope things change. Even a video on youtube or a link here to a NON-outdated video would be amazing. Thanks.

As I can see this forum is moving painfully slow - I'll do the work of the GM's and point out that Je Fawk's mini launcher was able to get me in game. Apparently the launcher provided by GMs here is buggy.

You should be able to search out that folder on this forum. Drop it into your Warhammer folder near the war.exe like you would the broken launcher - and run as admin.

Both RoR launcher and Jefawk's launcher work fine. Your perception of the RoR launcher being buggy is incorrect.

Dunno where to start here actually...
1. Just drag&drop the file to your winrar or open it from winrar directly, dunno what's so hard here. Also: no one here is responsible for missing options in your torrent client.
2. testpatch.exe and "the war app" (i guess war.exe is meant here) try to connect to the original mythic servers for obvious reasons...
Maybe use the RoR launcher instead, like written and described very nicely when you hit the big "download" in the upper right corner of the homepage.
3. What's an autoloader?
4. You have to allow the launcher to communicate though your firewall, the game files must have "read-only" unchecked and they must not be in use by other software (e.g. still sharing them via torrent). These are normal requirememnts to get most software to work.

Hopefully one day there will be a RoR app for tablets and "smart"phones, so that people just need to press one button for installing and starting it...
