its all about ping and packet loss. the less the better.
the netcode fix prbly. was a better prediction system. (Shooters have very intense algorythms for it).
So basically the server predicts what a player will do next and counts that into the packets sending to the other client. the more players the heavier the impact on the server etc. and of course the more off the client is ping wise the more has to be predicted and the more wrong it gets leading into above happenings.
