Yes, direct-target lifetaps work as long as you can target the friendly player (which in some cases can be a very long distance, well past 150ft).

I supposed I could add an option to ignore range checks altogether as long as the player is targetable.

I installed the Addon and I can open the meni with /wartriage. However, there is no "wartriage macro" showing up in my macros tab.
What am I doing wrong?

It should be a tan-ish colored W. Maybe try reinstalling the addon folder. And if you are using Textured Buttons make sure you have "Disable Archmage/Shaman mechanic glow" unchecked.

How do I check for that? I went through all the Macros in the menu and not a single one matches the icon / name.

All I did was unpack the rar-file into the addon folder of the game - was that not enough?

Hm sounds like the addon isn't working at all for you.
To stop the spam you could edit the macro in the Macro window and just remove the text "/wartriage" it isnt needed anyway.
