depends on the "Randoms" but easiest way to get a proper assist is by just checking who the best/"least sucky" DPS is in your SC and assist him ! :)

one thing Guild Wars 1 did well was the scenario system. Win as a group, you move on to the next scenario with the same group of players. Each time bigger rewards.

When you join the SC, and are in the SC party screen where yu can move to different parties, there is a button labeled Claim main assist. press that and you are the main assist , same as there is a make assist button in WB, but most use swift assist in organized WB, don`t think pug WB use either
