Why are you guys hell bent on making this about zerging vs. solo? I'm not arguing against grouping up if you want, all I'm saying is that this just looks to me like you didn't think it through to it conclusion. Encouraging grouping is fine, but not if it breaks other things that have been implemented. Guess i should've gotten the hint not to point things like this out after having entire threads deleted in the past.
Skullgrin is right. This exacerbates the existing problems while attempting to fix a non-problem. The benefits of grouping are already there. You do not need additional renown to encourage it. This simply rewards people who are already doing a thing and now they can continue to do it in even more situations and reap rewards similar to before.

Right now if one ultra-geared warband player takes all the credit for their group, the other 3 groups in the warband get reduced chance for credit. Not fun. This only empowers that situation.
Would be a huge QOL update for new players to actually allow kill credit to be shared, including crests, among the entire warband, not just each group within a warband. As long as you're nearby, you should be able to share in the spoils even if you're late to the engagement, as long as you have been near your fellow groupmembers.
Yeah never understood the change to making kill credit in warbands go to only the 6 man group. Originally (afaik) it was the whole Warband. Loot rolls were always per group, but warband-wide would be nice, especially considering how wb's are made. Big Dogs in the main, rest in others. The others still contribute but get squat normally.

In what sense? When you dropped a box all in group got renown.
Last time I ran a box in a group before today (which was probably quite a while ago), everyone got 240 renown. Today it was 240/6 * group xp bonus per box (something like 80 or so). Maybe it has been like this for a while and I haven't noticed b/c when I do run boxes it is usually solo.

no you are right... this changed with the patch. It used to be for every box for every one and now it's for box renown/playercount

One could say they nerfed grouping :^)
Tbh, stuff like this should be in patchnotes as people will ask whether it is an adjustment or a bug unless it is in fact a bug.
