The verses refer to the way you can lose yourself when communicating via technology, a core concept throughout the album. Attacking people and being a generally shitty person you wouldnt in real life, like the toxic people you defend. The Karma Police are something Thom and the band would refer to when comforting themselves that these people will get what is coming to them. It also recognises towards the end that they them themselves are hoping for bad things to happen to people. The chorus going from 'this is what you get when you mess with us' to 'for a minute there I lost myself', joining in the toxic spiral.

As long as there has been the internet there has been people being shitty on it. This thread seems like an attempt to engage with them more than anything. Because it's been pointed out countless times before and accomplishes nothing besides a little entertainment.

So if this feeds your sense of moral superiority or fights your burden, I understand. But there is a certain amount of hypocrisy in starting this and comparing people to children in attempt to demonstrate how terrible OTHER people are.

I agree people behave badly, but it's hard for me to separate the OP from them when they make a pointless thread like this. Wasting time debating how annoying the behavior of other people, who are themselves a waste of mental energy.

You seem to think the Karma Police are a reference to Orwellian Thought Police. That the mods here are Karma Police. In the song the Karma Police are the thing Thom is hoping for. That people will get Karma for their shitty actions and attitudes. So in a way you are kind of right. Be toxic on here and the Karma Police mods ban you. Thom and Johnny have said all this in interviews. Karma Police arent a reference to anyone. Just hoping for an overall balancing of things and even then you are dragged into the same toxic attitude by hoping for revenge.

Man asking to arest someone cause they are different. In the middle Karma police arests him. And in the end of song he realize, that not right to be such man, he lost himself for a minute, he is not that kind of person. Lyrics is simple as is.
