Maybe part of the issue is that, in mid to late T1, Magus still will not yet have the 85 range tactic, and only has the one slow which, as it's 5ft range, is only useful for pursuit, not escape/kiting, as the enemy has already hit you and likely slowed you as well if you try to escape using it. Thus, maybe ppl stop playing it in T1 and it is generally seen as weak, w/no real burst, meh DoT, and meh to low ranges for a cloth class (a lot of 5ft AoE effects).Nishka wrote:Wanna chase magus as melee? Come on, I dare you. With slow, 2 knockbacks, stagger, stun, detaunt, self buff on armor and tons of skills thet require little to no casting time we tend not to f* around. You will just overextend and get out of range of your healers
The only real threats to dot magus are very high rr bw and sw who can pretty much oneshot you from 100500ft unless you're quick enough to throw detaunt.
Also, it can take some getting used to the fact that, despite them being mobile, you shouldn't move your pets, but instead resummon/summon them: that way lies no DPS. It is easy for a n00b to not realize these are 100% turrets, as they will happily run along w/you, yet rubberband out of range if you attk later at a new locale, and not be then resummonable, either. That is a noob issue, but a highly annoying one until you realize what is going on. Also, having to guess if you went beyond resummon range is a distraction that can get you killed unless it becomes second nature to judge the distance. Some ppl just can't.
I have yet to get higher than high T1 w/it, spending more time on other toons, because it gets dropped so much due to always having to be out front and getting targeted 1st, so it takes forever to lvl unless he gets in a zerg.
I have nvr seen anything suggesting Magus is a grt kiter, as it's instacasts aren't that good in dmg, and it has to start it's retreat from the mid or front, not the rear, making it get hit in cloth, so go to low HP faster than those around it, and thus get auto slowed.
