I remember on live Sorcs would macro their entire rotation into one mouse or keyboard button. This would allow for them to always have perfect timing, so their abilities would hit at the exact same timestamp every single time.

MMOs have a lot enough skill cap to begin with, without needing to cheat. :-P
Agreed. I never understood why NB wasn't a banned addon, but if people need an addon to do the thinking for them to be remotely competitive, that's fair enough.

Heh, you do your thinking in the moment, an NB user has to do their thinking before hand. Why worry? If you are better than they are you will still win.

I can't even begin to fathom this argument.

So because NB requires some setup time, not to exceed the span of a few hours, let alone a day, it justifies giving players such an edge?

Are you not a developer? Just remove the hooks into the API. You can remove NB in a single key press. Well a series of key presses. But you get my meaning. Go ahead an knock it out if you don't like it.

I also find the idea of it giving an edge somewhat suspect. Does it look good on paper? Sure. But much like the argument for White Lions being equal to Marauders, I suspect that reality does not bear it out at all.

If you think it is advantageous then try it. Put in your hour if that's what you think it takes and see if it does indeed give an advantage.

I suspect that it just shifts a player's basic win or fail to fewer buttons.

A lot of NB users don't even make their strings, they either get them from a website, other player, or someone walks them through some ideas. There's really no argument for NB. WoW banned these kind of addons about 10 years ago in a big pvp patch and labaled such addons as 'excessive force' macros where you can just button mash one button. They said any addon that removes the player's requirement to make decisions should be banned. Other addons enhance, alert and shortcut decisions but at least the player is still making decisions.

NB is a perfect example of removing the player from the game. I always used to crack up when my sorc would parry a witch hunter, and the witch hunter would disarm me. NB is not perfect, but it turns baddies into average players, and average players into big mouthed egos. It's only good for player retention at this point.
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

I want whatever addon auto targets me the instant I stick my head above the parapets of the keep!

And I am not making an argument for the addon. I just offered some instruction as to its use as well as an observation about its usefulness.

The Devs can remove it at any time.

They will lose some players but then they have them to lose don't they? The game really has more friends that it can stand. Perhaps it could do with a percentage of them leaving. Might help the lag.

If it were possible to break NB, there would already be a vote up for doing so. As it is, I don't understand how you expect us to break the API when we can't modify the game client?

I think people just have you tab-targetted and if you have TargetRing addon, you can see when someone is inching closer to the edge. This way you can spam a dot and apply it the moment the target appears.

Hmm, Okay no modifying the game client.

Well, certainly the addon has to get some information from the server. Can that be set to null? The lua code for its checks are in the addon code. Is all of that accomplished purely in the client? It gets no info from the server that can be nullified?

You could go the lazy route and just ban it and then detect for it, handing out periodic bans for its use. It would have the same results. Player loss, population decrease, players would have to move to macros and 3rd party solutions for all their try-hard needs.
