These rings are fun for a month, while they have a slot for a talisman. After the term ends, these rings are practically useless. Well, maybe for crit-nerds

the mats required for crafting the rings are insanely high imho. It is a grindfest to even craft a green band when you need 20 average metals of some sort. Boxes or Ores are rare and when you get some, you get the metal ores out of them that you do not need. Prices are through the roof. It's just not "fun" crafting those rings and hardly worth the effort....
In the short time frame of the event, it is simply not feasible to craft a ring for the average player. Either drop rates have to be adjusted accordingly or the event has to go on for a much longer period of time, or the npc's and gather quests need to stay in game....
Like it is designed now, this ring event only strengthens the hardcore player base and is a slap in the face for the average player, creating an even bigger gear gap as it was before.
As a casual player who plays mostly solo I made there rings (platinum ruby, iron topaz and platinum topaz) and more than 1k gold selling materials...

Can any dev confirm/deny if there was an adjustment made to the PVE side drop rates for boxes of metal ore & gems after the event started?

Multiple 80+ RR characters. Something tells me you are a bit more than a casual player & downplaying how often you actually play. Three rings? That is solid fulltime playtime whether you want to factor actual playtime in or all the resources you had available at the time the event started to jumpstart.
Come on... No need to be dishonest.
P.S: Both your listed characters are Warlord+, one being Triumph+Sov on destro. So yeah, definitely not a casual player.

I have 3 80+ characters and I'm playing this game for more than 5 years...
I might have some luck with getting pure and flawless materials that I can sell for profit. I get around 20 boxes a day.

Last year, I managed to make 3 rings as a casual. I only had 1 lvl 40, my BO, and was playing either solo or in pugbands as snb. I also didn't have a clue how the event worked, so I picked talisman making.
Simply selling all of the boxes and crates for money is easily enough to craft a bunch of rings. If all you do is solo RvR, AND you're low ranked, yeh, its gonna be a painful grind because you're gonna get hardly any boxes. But if you join some open warbands, or do a bunch of scenarios, you'll get a lot more boxes. Add to that selling off your spares, and you'll be quite quick to get to enough gold to buy the materials you need.
This year, I came into the event with 3 high ranked characters, about 2500g, and knowledge of how the event works. It's still been a grind (for damn tools!!!!), but between co-operating with a couple of guild mates, as well as roaming in a group, its been so easy to get the rings.
And we shouldn't really be surprised about that. The devs have repeatedly made it clear that they want the community to work together, to form groups, and not to play solo. Nearly all their patches over the last few years have pushed us in that direction. Why should their events be any different?

ive had absolutely same experience previous event. tools were the most important bottleneck, had alot of resources, we've been grinding as of party of 5 and had no lack in resources at all.

Tools are pretty easy to get on alts. Just queue the two elf scenarios in t2 if you win it's always 20+ kills. Farm two resources in random rvrlake, turnin, requeue.
T4 sc is hit and miss. Sometimes even on wins you only have like 10 kills.
