Re: My Little journey to T4!

Now the whole server staff gathered around this post. Should i feel honored? Imo this bug is harmless as long as you are disconnected from the game. That i reconnected to the servers after 35 minutes was very lucky, but as far as i know was this a cicumstance that wont happen very often
To be honest i never heard of anyone reconnecting to the servers after being struck by a soft dc. but this video should not be seen as an instruction 'how to break the game in 4 easy steps' or 'devs hate this simple trick'. Much more i just wanted to share a nice, nostalgic and also a bit funny vodeo with you as i always do with my old and upcoming bugs/exploits videos.

I was not able to watch the video till the end, high lvl mobs were sighted in the zones? or are they even existing yet, the landscapes seem extinct :?

If you watch til the end you can see me reconnecting to the server and suddently all mobs are there. You cant see them in the beginning because i was disconnected for 2/3rd of the video. The big.question is: how could i reconnect after being disconnected for half an hour... But as far as i see it this bug should not be reproducable... Because i was very lucky.

damn my post about Not gaining any actual advantage was deleted? that's pretty lame lol since one of your Game Masters agreed with me.

bug =/= exploit

but this is only possible IF and ONLY IF you are supremely lucky enbough to somehow reconnect to the server. Considering how rare a soft DC is during Non RvR or SC related game play, this is even LESS of a possible threat to anyone.

As 99.9% of the people who get in (which is going to be sa Very Very small % of the server population int he first place) are going to see a completely empty wasteland, with absolutely nothing to interact with.

Dunno botu you guys, but Ive had a soft DC that I didnt notic, and stood around for about 40 min before finally deciding to close the game out.

Bug vs Exploit is about intent and end goal. You can either exploit bugs, work around or fix them. A bug in a vacuum is just a thing, what you do with the bug determines if you exploit it. Intention to reproduce a bug for your benefit is by it's nature exploiting the bug. Where your intentions might be benign we have seen many people in this game abuse bugs (i.e Exploit them)

Right but if theres practically no chance of the user reconnecting to the server, and then being able to farm the lvl 40 + mobs, then the term Exploit as far as the game is concerned is invalid.

But its true, the second people learn how to force the Soft DC, and figure out a way to get Back with the intention of farming higher lvl mats, then it Would certainly be considered exploiting.

This would be fine if it were actually the case, but it isn't. It doesn't actually matter whether you get reconnected or whether you quit out and rejoin the server - in both cases, the server remembers your last position, which will be somewhere you're not meant to be.

if what were the case? to get to this forbidden area, you start in an allowed area. You are then disconnected from the server. So how exactly is the server recording your position as someplace you shouldn't be?

Is the Soft DC even stranger than i thought, where you actually are connected to the server, yet somehow out of phase from the rest of the assets?

Pardon my ignorance if I am completely mistaken on how we interact with the server, and how the Link Dead bug actually works. But I currently see this as a Non-exploit as there is no real way to gain an advantage due to this.

The only thing that's stopping you escaping the Skaven Maze which is in the Outer Dark (the dangerous territory zone left of Reikland) is the presence of the walls. Now when you soft DC, these walls, which are objects created by the server, disappear, and you are allowed to move.

However, what you don't know about a soft DC is this: the server is still accepting your data. So when you're moving, ignoring those fences that aren't there for you anymore, the server is blithely accepting those moves. When you finally disconnect from the server on your end, your position is outside the maze.

Log back in and you will be where you were when you closed your client.

ah, now its starts to come together, thank you for the explanation. I had a feeling that my data was still being received, as when people in TS seem to go LD, I am still able to see them running around and doing things lol.

Once upon a time, I went LD in Ror Anroc, My team mates in TeamSpeak said that it showed me as dead. However I started walking back to our re-spawn, at which point My teammate was able to resurrect my dead body, and I was suddenly able to see everyone again.
