Okay guys, let me start off by apologizing.

I discovered the issue myself now. I had never actually installed the DX program, merely downloaded the zip file. I have installed it now and the game works.

Feel stupid and sorry for wasting your time like this.

In my defence, the error message I got was the same (or very similar at the very least) as the one in this thread so I tried to solve it from there. The DX program was never mentioned so I logically didn't assume it was the problem.

Anyway, it works now - I don't know about the other people from whom I hijacked this thread but for me it's solved.

This is what I wanted to add, you have missing DX file.

Also it's very important (and it took like 5-6 days for me to finally figure it out): make sure you have the 32bit DX file installed, even if your Windows is 64bit, the game won't work unless you add the 32bit DX file.

I think this is the cure for all black screen issues as well, at least I tested it on 2 different laptops and installs and this single solution worked for both.

I found the solution, using "Windows 10", select all files, then right click, properties, then tick "UNBLOCK" then untick "READ ONLY" and "APPLY"

Then the game should load, this worked for me
