I don't remember there being item degradation on live at all. The only broken/repairable weapons I remember were generic loot drops which could then be repaired at an NPC to get an item for your class...
Correct, this is how it was on live. If anything this might have been a alpha/beta thing but never got added. Only those mentioned repairable drops were there.
Dying is no option.

It's pretty easy to make gold, but it's also really easy to spend it too. 800 armor pots were 3g a piece last week; I can use 5 or more of those in a day pretty easy. The potent lasting shielding pots are rarely available for less than 5g and it really wouldn't be hard to use a lot of those during pushes etc, but they are rare and expensive enough to prevent that. Then there are a few items that are really rare like the potent fortifying pots that run around 50g each and a handful of linis that are quite rare. Unless you have an excess of gold they just aren't worth it, but if you've got a ton laying around why not have an extra talisman worth of armor?

You can also sink a fair amount into gearing a twink. Top quality accessories below lvl 36 aren't very common on the AH and fetch 20g+ on average. Purple talis are like 20g a piece as well. Not necessary, but nice to have.

I remember it used to cost I think 5gold to respec. Does the economy not get out of control without a way to remove gold from the game? I suppose there are healers too.
Apologies if these are daft questions, I'm new to RoR, played the original release a bit.

Armour talismans are not a sink (outside of general auction house fees) as it's moving gold from one player to another. Sinks are things that remove the gold from the game completely.

Please dont make me grind gold - war has never been a gold grinding game. Its bad enough having to grind to get armour pots/linis.
