well the OP asked 'even for aesthetic' reasons, so why not
that loner tactic did just push your damage output, but you could not use the skills requiring a pet anymore (eg the Pull/Fetch , that mara can always use) and therefore a wasted tac-slot

Loner (at high RR) WLs did decent damage. Arguably better than using the Pet vs enemies using TB.

But it turned you into a sub-par Slayer, with slightly more survivability and mobility.
WL is all about being the most bursty of all the DPS (hence the reliance upon the pet): pounce in; dispose of an enemy in 2 seconds; get out.
