I know the very basics of a few languages and I use the opportunity to learn new words myself (especially swear words), I don't get all paranoid or upset because I don't understand what's being said.
I'm kind of old enough to remember a time when you didn't have any opportunity to speak with people in other countries unless you had a penpal or some ****. People these days don't really recognize a good opportunity when it's staring them right in the face.
Of course this is just my opinion, and of course opinions are a bit like assholes - we all have one.

Its not just the russians. Thats an example being used in the forums, thats all. What is wrong with sending that person a /tell and avoid using the Advice channel for that kind of thing? Just a while back there was an arguement about two frech guys talking to eachother for a while in french. I said something about it and five minutes later i get asked in (perfect) english to tell them where they can find BO guards. They stated they liked to talk french to otehr french people. And that is just lame. Hence why i answered in Dutch.

My sister dates a Dutch guy, she learning Dutch atm. Maybe I should too eh? But yeh valid points most of you guys raise, just wasn't sure what the OP was getting at, and don't think we need to trouble the devs with this nonsense tbh, we can thrash out these things ourselves and come up with a solution that suits all. It's all about the spirit in which these questions are presented if you understand what I mean.

Anyway, I've had more than my 2 cents here so you guys figure it out.

Let me add my two cents: when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
I am Russian. I understand when my fellow-countrymen ask a question or two in /ad in Russian. I usually whisper them if I have a solution to their problem or question. However, i hate it when they flood the channel.
Trust me, if you understood Russian, you'd be appalled with what usually goes on in those 'conversations'. It is a very special type of stupidity, which has no place among the civilized.

I see contradiction here. People with no clue about english have almost no reason to use this forum.

It's mostly ("Ы" is not "I") accurate. You'll be able to get the basic concept.

Back in the days, my first impression from english alphabet was: what a rediculous nonsense is this? Letters are misused!

While im not exactly a fan of seeing languages i don't understand in chat channels i think u have to respect that not everyone can read or write in english, ppl should be free to communicate in whatever language they are more fluent in.

Ah yes i get it, you are very proud of you country and everyone not willing to learn your language is an uneducated prick...

There are ~6500 different languages in the world, divided into ~300 genetic units. Russian is just one of those, like every other language else.

Seriously though: thanks a lot, but i don't want to learn the basic concepts. I neither plan a voyage to the russian federation, nor is there any special information only available in cyrillic letters. There are a lot of other languages i would rather learn and that would have any use to me (french, italian, greek, etc.).

Honestly, this line just makes it sounds as if you are resentful that English is the widely accepted lingua franca in the West, and that you speak Russian simply to assert the existence of your own language. Also that you're getting a kick out of the perceived irritation you cause.

However. My personal opinion on the actual topic would be that while it is nice for everyone to speak English, as it aids mutual understanding and makes the server feel more friendly than seeing floods of a language that only a few people understand in the global chat, there is no real reason to restrict languages on the server. Seeing Russian or whatever language in the global chat merely causes irritation, and irritation to only a subset of the players at that, which in my opinion is not worth doing anything about.

There is a prime connection between education and self-esteem. So, confident person doesn't get feel of "disconnection", when someone is talking in other languages. I shared the info, not asking anyone to learn russian, especially you.

It was a joke with a grain of a truth.
Not my favorite business hijacking something and I don't think, that is any difference about "lingua franca" (google-translate-english is pretty acceptable), but whole drama is still amusing.
And my fellow countrymen getting fun from it.
So here is the hint - do not care. Or pretend, that you don't care. And problem should be gone by itself.

I think additional global channels will be useful anyway.
