Are you looking for a reason to play BG other than fun? Or is this a "buff BG" thread in disguise?

All my threads are usually shilling for something in disguise, I started leveling up a BG after I made this thread actually and am just super sad looking at the trees and whatnot. Also getting bullied for playing one instead of BO/CH.

Then just reroll and don't waste your time. The specs and playstyles I mentioned are incredibly fun (and can be quite effective as well), but if you are not interested, or only worry about the "meta" then the class is probably not for you. It's ok; we don't have to like all the classes and specs in this game (I for example hate Magnet spec on Engie).

Does the class need a few tweaks here and there? Ofc, like all other classes in this game. But it is nowhere nearly as broken as so many claim it is.

For some competing is more fun than having fun.

But it's ironic since there is almost no competition on this server (not in the sense that me/my guild are the best) but in the sense that there is no scene or environment that allows for actual competition to take place.

I guess I have grown accustomed to posting on the forums as if this where a game that had hundreds of 6 man guilds also queing up and fighting each other where the meta would actually matter.

Still I feel like BG is just completely overshadowed by the current BO/Ch setups, and discussing it couldn't hurt, but obviously just starting a thread called "Hey guys BG is ****" wouldn't be really conductive to that :^)

To get back on topic, in response to your 2h build that you posted that is exactly what I wanted to run but I don't see it having enough defense.

On my 2h knight i have 2pc ruin 3pc merc, full parry jewelry, have the benefit of m2 and resist aura to keep to capped, and 240 ini from runefang. And I still occasionally would get dumpstered when running against premades that knew I was the weak link, or it would force the dps im guarding to have to back off to save me.

BG has even less defense than this, and i just see myself getting into even worse situations than when i was running 2h knight without vigilance.

But I've made it to 31 now and i guess I'm gonna stick it out. Maybe cheesy double dok groups might make it easier on destro who knows.

You shouldn't compare BG (or any other tank, for that matter) to KotBS. That class is easymode as **** and I'm sure it will get hit with the nerfhammer eventually.

I'm just comparing it to kotbs because it what I have played recently, and I feel like it gave me some insight to what I can except defensive wise. But could do the same for other tank classes which have core defensive abilities conductive to 2h spec like chosen, even though no one runs it currently because morale pump is too strong to give up, same thing with knight and dirty tricks forcing them to be shield.

Basic 2H defensive spec

* I would use this when we have a DPS BO in the group (unless the situation called for SNB's 5 sec KD, e.g. against a good order premade - it's invaluable imo);
* Coupled with full RR in parry, the 4 x parry jewels, parry cloak from lair boss and the epic weapon that gives 10% parry, you can get around 70-75%+ parry with a 2h.
* Best to use with 3 piece ruin 2 piece merc/anni.

You'll have a lot of fun with that and be very tanky in melee vs melee setups. Vs casters not so much (but I would always just equip a shield anyway vs casters as HTL > 2h disrupt wannabe for the team)

Only Chosen and SM have core defensive abilities for 2H spec (+parry). KotBS can't buff his parry, and IB/BO have to spec for parry tactics (and Oathbound for IB).

BG can spec for a tactic that buffs his parry by 30% at full hatred. The problem is that you don't want to use it because you want Crimson Death.

@peter yup, that's a nice defensive 2H spec. I bet several Order will focus you, thinking you are squishy. Just like several players ignore a SnB BO/SM, thinking they do lame damage.

But in the end, I prefer running the cookie cutter DPS spec and playing as a mDPS. And just swapping gear/tactics if feeling squishy for a certain fight. Sure, in SnB you lose CD, but you regain your 5 sec KD. I run like 4-5 different setups on Closetgoblin, depending on the class. For tanks it usually is:

- SnB Offensive
- SnB Defensive
- 2H Offensive
- SnB PvE
- 2H PvE

And the spec I linked lets you do all of those without needing to respec.

Of course CD is basically the only thing you'd ever go 2h for. Was just offering a semi-viable defensive spec that you can run as a 2h, whilst maintaining the AOE snare and outgoing heal debuff. to reiterate your words: depends on what you want, competitive spec or fun?
