Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
Re: Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
I like ruin for a couple of classes, also ruin is great for a 2 piece + 3 piece of something else until you can wear full merc etc.

Trying to get my 2h Chosen this tank set just seems impossible. 5-6 hours and not a single gold
bag yet. Getting a full set of Mercenary wasn't too much of an issue but getting tanking gear for
a tank in T4 is too much relying on pure luck.

This token would merely eliminate people like me on my Chosen who AoE damage (dot aura) and heal self on block (aura), and have a set pattern to optimize how many of the silly little dwarf rangers I kill and generally end up in the top 3 of contribution winning more than (what I consider) my fair share of bags. I ran it tonight to show a guild mate my "pattern" and explain to him how I maximize my contribution. I let him "kill" everything, but my DoT aura was n to pull the mobs and I taunted (pulled) the Champ at the end. With so very little contribution I was still ranked 2nd and won the gold bag. Guess what... a third set of Ruin Gloves. wa wa waaaaaaa.
If there were tokens for one piece (whichever piece you actually needed) that one could "buy" from a vendor, it would only take 5 gold bag wins to get your full set. (4/5 is fine with me BTW and I have quit grinding the PQ).
I know that this is "NOT HOW IT WAS ON LIVE", but the good 'ol days are gone, and as a working adult and father, the tokens would have meant time to do something I really wanted to do in game versus something I had to do over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, only to end up with 3 sets of gloves and two sets of shoulders (but no chest piece).
It may be too late to change the way the Ruin set is rewarded, but as the entry-level set for newly minted 39s and 40s, making it more readily available also makes Orvr and SCs more competitive for all.
My 2¢
i like it
Re: Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
nah it would be really lame if it was that easy to get Ruin. Needs to be **** the way it is. otherwise the point of doing these things is lost. Sure it gets annoying, but the work must be put in to get something that relatively easy to obtain.
Im not so sure Ruin should be easier than the PvP sets to obtain. I think its fine the way it is now, but there are certainly some classes that just don't seem to get the luck in these gold bags.

Re: Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
I guess whole problem will be gone with release of more PQs, as was stated before. No need to change loot system. If anything i liked better when maximum roll was 300, that way people that contributed were actually winning, instead of pure luck when i can just as good afk and win gear as constantly farming these damned orcs for 5 hours stright.
TLDR just wait for more PQs to be released and people will split up.

Most Important question! How does the Set look like?

Re: Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
Imo, Ruin gear is totally worth the time it needs to be collected. Regarding the set in itself and the bonuses, it is the best tanking set as far as I'm concerned (BO).
For the stats that matter and compared with Annihilator stuff :
- more Armor (+275) ;
- more Toughness (+44) ;
- better Block rate bonus (+7%).
BUT, there is always a 'but' ... it takes really some time to get all pieces of the set : it took me 29 gold bag to get the very last piece I still needed !

Re: Ruin armor - Is it worth it?
There's no justification for making it so monotonous and time-consuming to acquire what is essentially entry-level gear.
This thread has mustered precisely two arguments against making it easier:
1. It should be time consuming so it means something.
2. The sets for one archetype are BiS.
My responses:
1. People participating in RvR (and slowly-dying SCs) means more
2. This is an itemization problem.

Ruin gear is ment to bridge the gap between deva/duelist and anni/merc as filler gear
Yet for many a class it's harder to obtain than the latter sets that it's not worth
