Re: Shield wall keep defense
I mostly play this game hoping and wishing for a proper Keep or BO Defense with a good old shield wall.
Realistically, its the major thing that sets this game apart from the rest. Being able to utilize actual defensive/aggressive tactics is what keeps me here.
For this reason, I generally do not Pug.

Re: Shield wall keep defense
From memory when I used to play a chosen as a main on live shield walls only worked (against serious opposition) if they were setup and maintained by a well organised and coordinated RVR guild WB, maybe even 2 if facing a zerg. You would need at least 4 s&b tanks cross guarding with staggered positioning to allow their hold the line's to overlap and of course dedicated healers.
Shield walls used to be seriously effective before Mythic did the retarded redesign of the keeps and introduced the zerg ramps, it went down hill from there.

Re: Shield wall keep defense
The 2nd ramps in keeps. At release there was only the inside stair/ramp into lord's room. No outside ramp to come around and fight outside the lord's room. Here tank walls were kinda effective if placed correctly, because you could place it so that any AOE being directed at the tanks (or anyone behind them) would have to come into LoS of the defending dps long before they could do effective damage.StormX2 wrote:Zerg ramp?

The 2nd ramp was added because it was too difficult to take keeps against anything other than a token defense, and while I disagree with the change (no one in their right minds would design a defensible structure like the current iterations) I can see why it was done.

im glad they built the highway stairs. taking the lord room would be impossible if only the small stairs were available. (at least when a tankwall is up)

wow really? man I somehow don't remember that in the slightest bit. I know we always used to go up the middle ram to the center of the lord room. but I dont remember why. I guess that answers that lol

Re: Shield wall keep defense
Yes, Shield wall is still effective i believe for both sides Order + Destruction. It is most
potent if you have just that, (ex. Warriors with the Sword and Shield) spec that physically are using shields that can take more hits than others it does work, and does make difference. Sometimes though as some have mentioned not so good. It depends who you have in the party. Example you would not want Witchelves etc up in front near the door.
And of Course you would want us caster types in the back on the Balcony's or On Upper levels casting away
at the enemy below..Gives me time to Collect my thoughts +Drink My Coffee As Well..
