Me personally would be happy to play 1.4.8 version from live forever, with no changes....but here on RoR i learned that its good to keep ur mind open :)

This is what I would LOVE. Just to see. have an .abx or whatever adjust a few abilities around or even just Guard. See what happens. I think it would really make a difference

I really like the current guard mechanic gatekeeper. I feel like it is one of the things this game has done correctly. I would be very very sad if the current guard mechanic changed in anyway. I don't think the guard mechanic should be changed.

If the guard mechanic was changed, because guard is so fundamental to the TTK, my viewpoint would be that this game is going in the wrong direction.

I agree, guard mechanic makes RoR stand out of many similar MMOs, newer abandon trinity and give a bit of everthing to evry class. Guard makes u need to group up with others to play effectively.

Wow, two people in the game :P You should meet the other guy about 6 pages back who said a similar thing.

What do you like about the guard mechanic, do you main tanks? Do you mainly play during EU times?

I like the concept of "guard" in that you provide damage mitigation for your party... What I dislike is the implimentation of guard in ROR. Its "passive" and boring, and forces the tank to follow around MDPS players as well as constantly watch health bars - like a healer. The other problem I have proposed in this thread is that its extremely solo player unfriendly. A tank doesnt want his life to be composed of just following players around being their "buff bot" in a sense... In my experience in premade SC groups, Its much more fun. Every second counts and you usually have an easy time staying grouped and guarding and you dont feel that way (largely because you are FF everything) but when you play duo Q or solo Q, its PAINFULLY obvious.

I am curious what you like about guard. Maybe it can keep those qualities while at the same time, being much more "active" or "dynamic" and fun to use.... which will in turn make tanks WANT To use that ability more often - even in PUG groups, which creates a better QOL for PUG or solo players who dont always have the time or the playerbase to make premade groups.

Ok, what do YOU like about guard? Because it seems to me, doing a rework of guard wouldnt "abandon the trinity". It does NOTHING to abandon the trinity at all.... In fact it reinforces it even further. If more tanks are using guard. It makes it even MORE important that other players do their jobs as well....

I dont see how these are mutually exclusive. Do you not thing that we can rework guard and still "make you need to group up to play effective?!" It still largely seems the exact same thing and importance on a party...... I think guard is a small "piece" of what you are describing that as a whole does apply to WAR/ROR and you could remove Guard altogether or modify guard and still have a VERY high level of class dependency...

The minority of what? All gamers? No. The current ROR population? Maybe... But thats what, 1000 people? This is the problem... If we always cater to the current "majority" however are creating substantial barriers to entry for newer players, thats a formula for a dying game. As evidenced by population #s today, versus say a year ago...
