A DPS does not need to be defensive. A DPS needs to be a threat. A stationary DPS also needs additional coverage to avoid the mobility becoming a punishing weakness.

Looking down the line of giving DPS classes utility or defense is what was originally done with these classes and it's why we laugh them off. Now, at last, people actually care about them.

The range will be tweaked in the next patch, but the core of any changes made will be this: they are DPS. Let's make them potent DPS and give them a drawback to match.

^ what he said. Even if the range for bolt of change/snipe is reduced to 200ft as opposed to 225ft, I can't see that being bad. so many prerequisites to get that max range that I feel nerfing it too much may render the concept meh.

range has been especially nice for 6v6. uploading some samples from last night's 6v6s on the magus: really love the idea of being a stationary DPS provided it works!.

If both sides are amazed and happy with the range buff for engi and magus I am ok with that. Just increase detaunt range to 150 feet because both classes became from ignored to thread. Thats all :-)

I am not happy myself about the idea of reducing the range. The reduction is from 50% to 30%, and if it turns out to be too much I will restore it.

I might go for 35%, I don't know. The main problem is the death ring, in which you can be hit by Engi/Magus but you can't hit them back. I had not accounted for the inability to detaunt within that ring, and so a contraction from 50ft to 35ft or 30ft may be necessary.

I believe a significant component of this issue is the Unshakable Focus morale, as Snipe into UF into Hip Shot into Focused Fire on Engineer from 150ft out, without any possibility of detaunting, is deadly. I have done the best I can to bring down UF on Engineer, by having it ignore Improvised Upgrades, but UF is still a major problem, I feel.

They already have FM. I believe UF is mirrored with Siphon Power, lol. -_-

The question here, I think, is: is Engineer the problem? Is Magus considered okay? And if so, is the Engineer issue a consequence of access to Unshakable Focus?

I really am loath to mess with the range if UF is the source of the problem. If it is, we could consider experimentally using another morale in its place. If not, and it's the ring of death, we have no choice but to drop the range and look at other aspects of the class.

A single undefendable 3sec cast ability with 5 sec CD, even with 225 ft range can't be the problem.
However, this ability with double damage from UF can be.
A lot of destros are complaining about the engie, and from what I saw that's not the case about the magus.
UF is the problem.
I've been burst down by engies way more quickly than what I can do as a magus.
I already said it, but the range buff is fine.
This morale 2 however is a nightmare.

Magus is ok tbh, I can play a decent ST spec now.
But magus is still weaker than engie, and I'm sure UF is the main reason of this inequality.
