2h BGs are not bad.
If you build it correctly it can become a strong counter against melee or casters, but never both if you want to maintain some damage. Only exception are SMs, you can not survive if the SM builds for dots.
Doesn't take time to get to 100 hate it you use channel and dark protector smartly. Blowing all hate on powerful debuffs is meant to be a risky move. This is a balanced tradeoff.
The biggest mistake I see BG/IB players make is trying to give all buffs/debuffs to their targets, but the best ones to maintain are situational. Are you going offensive? Prio to armour/Tgh/ctbc debuff and str buff. Defensive? Prio to tgh buff, elite training, absorb, and ctc reduction, debuff etc.
If you think about it, this was a common design intent for many class mechanics such as the Knight/chosen aura rotation, stance dance on SW/Mara, to Red or not to red on SL/CH, but anyway back on topic...
Crit tactic: meant to be used before channel burst. Synergises well because you're building back hate faster to recover your defenses. Need more insurance? Elite training is the way to go and the reason it is off GCD.
Crit doesn't seen good for 1v1. Small scale you can make it work but your team composition matters. Does it deal as much dmg as BO? Nope, but the utility it brings is mind boggling.
