[Sorceress/Bright Wizzard] Dark Magic / Combustion Backlashs
Re: [Sorceress/Bright Wizzard] Dark Magic / Combustion Backl
If you think about it logically, by increasing backlash damage you are further pigeonholing casters into a full combustion glass cannon spec that needs a pocket healer. The more you increase backlash damage, the more the caster relies on a healer and the less chance a caster will try to experiment into soloing or duoing etc. Increasing backlash dmg only increases the imperative to get the most damage out of every cast to end the fight... i.e. staying at full combust/dm. Increasing backlash will only slightly change the strategy of the group to accomodate the extra backlash dmg and never force casters to blow DM/Comb. The entire mechanic is an enigma to begin with but I think the devs that were left by the end realized increasing backlash dmg wasn't the answer.

One page before this one, last post.
Short answer: It is verified, that the backlash damage is too high. The devs just have to read it.

I wasn't aware that this thread was still a search for truth/live game values especially with the latest backlash increase in the game. All the red herring posts regarding the AM class also threw me off. I was under the impression that it had turned into theoretical discussion regarding the mechanic. I apologize for ranting then.

Mmm also got that impression from reading up the posts.
Note: Increasing BL potentially make bombing worse through BL reflect tactic and a render a few other tactics useless. (The ones giving more damage and 100% BL)

A reasonable RvR system that could make the majority happy http://imgur.com/HL6cgl7

Theoretical discussion is interesting, but at this point, the combat and careers functionality should match that of the live server, for better or worse.porkstar wrote:I wasn't aware that this thread was still a search for truth/live game values especially with the latest backlash increase in the game. This thread has indeed a lot offtopic but finally I got numbers for the devs to work with. The feeling of many people about too high backlash is supported by my sources.
I assume you're not aware that the damage numbers are incorrect.Azarael wrote:

I am indeed aware that the current damage numbers are incorrect, I read the threads I post in before I post. Apologies if I didn't make that clear. At the time, Telen's estimate was the best guess of how the BL damage was calculated, and so it's what I implemented.
Re: [Sorceress/Bright Wizzard] Dark Magic / Combustion Backl
they were testing a backlash increaseporkstar wrote:During the last days of live wasn't a backlash DMG REDUCTION actually being tested on the PTS? I'm just catching up on this but what is the major beef with backlash damage and why was it increased? Caster dmg/backlash isn't the problem, opponents failing to shut them down is the problem. They are squish for a reason. Also, if the ability setback mechanic was working, it would be more worthwhile to tweak that than backlash. I can't believe devs are tweaking/experimenting with working mechanics before fixing broken ones.
