First of all, thanks to the devs and people involved for taking the effort to organize such an event. It takes time and doesn’t get paid. So respect for that. And having that many people in a single RvR lake was surely an excellent test of what is currently possible.
Even though I might be one of the few and already looking forward to the flamers. I explicitly state it is as my opinion. I did not like/enjoy the event, especially the RP part in Altdorf (srry Thunderers). And since we should give constructive criticism, I will try to that here.
Point by point (including potential changes in brackets):
- The whole promotion stuff in first 30min of event. Honestly, would it have been clear from the forum post that it would be BT promotions part followed by a mini parade, I wouldn’t have taken the effort to go Altdorf. (If having the High King honoring players, it would have been nice to have other dwarf players honored too, ie., honoring the actual top 3 reknown ranking dwarf players of each class on the server, or something similar. Having this, the internal BT promotions performed by the High King would have been a fun side note of this part. I’m almost sure the players/tester(as it is what we actually are) in question would have cooperated with U to make this happen)
- On BT promotions part. Seeing a “RP”-guild officially promoting a player named after a well known real world rifle, not really RP to me, but that’s Ur own choice. Imo, the name would rather be suiting to a human from Kislev in RP sense. This is discussable though. (Imo, if promoting RP, the try to keep it as RP as possible, including chars used for parts in event.)
- About the RP-RvR-part. Having Praag as battlefield for a Dwarf vs Orc battle including their respective allies? (Some battlefield of dwarf/Orc pairing would have been a bit more RP.)
- The lag. Imo it was nice that there was another active zone (Caledor) when the actual RvR part in T4 started. I tried to move to Caledor in hope it would not be as laggy in Praag. Then the game crashed (at least mine), and when able to log in again Praag was the contested zone. After that I changed to a T1 char, which was a lot of fun and no lag. (Maybe it would be an option to make sure there is a 2nd contested zone in T4 next to the zone used for the event, thereby reducing the pressure on the event zone, thereby reducing lag. Another option would be to take the event to all tiers, this also potentially decentralizes the battle.)
- Last but not least, the overabundant use of the say channel for the event [also happening on other occasions in RvR lakes though by certain members of the community]. Sometime the say bubbles take up most of the screen. Remark: I haven’t found an option to switch off say bubbles on the screen. Except switching off /s-channel, and I don’t think that to be usefull. (Maybe move the whole story stuff to the ”/7”-RP channel, and give it bubbles. Then people who want to join event can switch to the RP channel (maybe even switch off /s-chat) and enjoy the whole thing.)
Again, even though not having enjoyed this event and sounding a tad negative , I have to repeat my respect for the effort to make this happen, and I hope that this post is understood as positive/constructive criticism. I cannot comment much on content of actual RvR battle at later stages since I was not present anymore due to lag issues.
