Do remember that Block and Parry only work for attacks from the front (guard is always from the front) - Toughness works from every direction, but guard damage ignores toughness and armor.

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
Spec that stuff later when you have more rr pts
For now get get block so you can proc mixed defenses more and toughness

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
At this time, for best RVR tanking given the renown choices available you should take the following as a Chosen if you run Sword&Board:
Block>Parry>Dodge & Disrupt
Max out Block until you can't afford the next upgrade in this area.
Move to Parry until you cannot afford the next upgrade in this area.
Dodge and Disrupt until you are out of points.
The reason I stay away from Toughness in renown points right now is I don't have a ton of points to spend. As such, it's better to use talismans to augment the Toughness in you gear than to spend points on Toughness. After all, there is no other way to talisman in block %, Parry, and Dodge/Disrupt.
I am testing a Renown Point Build that goes Block > Dodge/Disrupt > Parry
I feel I could use more Disrupts (looking at you BWs) in game right now and I run a Mixed Defenses/Suppression Build, so I am at 50% parry most of the time. As such more Parry is great, but more disrupts may be a lot better given the Order propensity for BWs.
The additional Disrupt has not been super noticeable, but I've only played a few SCs with this build. I'll report back. BTW, if you don't run a Mixed Defenses/Suppression build, stick to adding Parry. It'll help a lot against Melee and Melee AoE spammers (looking at you Slayers)

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
you already get 50% parry with mixed defenses and suppression do you really need more atm?

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
use an add on called advance renow trainer, it makes your renow trainer interface a lot less confusioning.
it depend from your build, if you had spent the mastery points in corrupt path (and so mixed defense tactic) you may want cap block, then put those points in dodge /disrupt or if you go discord you could go 3x all (block/dodge/disrupt).
The new 10 point for being renow rank 40 most likely again on block.

As stated in my original post, I do run 50% parry, so I am testing a Renown Point Build with more Dodge/Disrupt. see below:Coryphaus wrote:you already get 50% parry with mixed defenses and suppression do you really need more atm?

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
I have often thought it would be a good idea to improve the description of the renown abilities.
for example
Block - useless unless you *EQUIP* shield
Parry - useless unless you are melee/tank
as well as that description could include if known not working notes.

Re: Renown Abilities Advice
Uhm? why should parry be useless for non-melee classes? Its a totally valid pick for Dok/Wp or even on AMs/Shamies for the lulz. And 'speccing' for shield is also not correct. Its about wearing a shield or not.
Re: Renown Abilities Advice
Full block/parry cause getting melted by guard damage sucks.
Khorlar, Thorvold, Sjohgar, Anareth, Toldavf, Hartwin, Gotrin and others -_-
