DAoC had realm pride going for it.
99% of games have adopted a culture of banter and **** talking, and it's not something you will ever change, nor do I want to see the devs do things like remove /say chat to stop it. As long as it doesn't cross a taboo line like racism, or turns into constant harassment I think it is fine.
If you want to call someone trash that is fine, but don't send them 50 tells and constantly harass them after the fact.
As far as this server is concerned, most people here are "hardcore" so there is bound to be a lot more nerdrage here than you would of ever seen on live. The community is small, and your actions/words have greater consequences here due to that low population. If someone wants to be an asshole and isolate themselves within their guild/friends that is their choice.
As a proud american I would like to see as much free speech as possible.

There is a reason most games do not allow any kind of crossrealm communication.

That was you! (If your a Swordmaster) lol
It was really effective, you saved a lot of your teammates from dieing.

I'd say only a really small fraction of tanks use taunt to interrupt casted spells, which made it stick out in my minds. (I played an IB on live for years).

Freedom of speech was intended to keep the people free from tyranny. It was intented to keep the press free from censorship, so the people could be informed. It was to keep us from being controlled...
People have morphed that into an excuse for being an asshole. Ya, you can call someone a "***" on the internet...but should you just because you can? Freedom of speech doesn't eliminate personal responsibility.
That being said, no one (not myself) here is suggesting eliminating the ability to talk to the opposing faction. The original post, was talking about my personal experiences and asking you to share yours.

Yeah that was me haha. Good SCs last night, had a blast. Looking forward for more this weekend.

As you probably know, there are weekly Bitterstone events. I'm one the guild leaders (Krumlok, the noisy Orc) who organises the Destro-side resistance against them. (Leading WBs, calling on advice channel and such).
If we get stomped and fail, I congratulate the Bitterstone Leaders (Drengk and Lesti) personally.
But yes, there are some who like to insult people because they got defeated, idiots will be idiots, and idiots are everywhere (including RoR)
But we love being insulted and taunted by Krumlok the defiler - just do it in character

Realistically, sending some petty insult to your enemy just instantly tags you as an immature young male still struggling with hormonal issues... Perhaps not something to advertize too broadly??
On the other hand, hurling theme-appropriate insults to your opponent increases the immersion and showcase your creative thinking abilities... I for one welcome reading the foul words of Slaanesh's followers!

cross realm shittalking is for the most part harmless, it is the shittalking within your own realm that ends up being destructive.

I think a lot of the sh*t talking over /t gets misinterpreted. To use the example in this thread, someone /t ing you "EFFING SORCS!!" after an SC wasn't probably pure rage, rather a commantary on how effective you were. Take it as a compliment. After getting wtfpwnd on my shammy in an SC last night by Poo, I sent a /t "Leave me alone b**ch, I'm trying to heal!"
Now that could have been taken the wrong way, and I hope it wasn't, but that was a backhanded compliment of sorts. He and the slayer he was heal-botting wtfbbqpwnd me - and fast and It, to me, was kinda funny. But thinking about it later, I understand how it could have been taken the wrong way.
Often I am sitting in Ostaland, chatting with Sweets or Elchappo, testing stuff and and SC pop hits and a minute later, we are killing eachother. Comments like mine from them would be taken as a compliment. It's when you don't really know the player that you can read into some /t's the wrong message or lose the sarcasm and humor.
There are those out-of-their-effing-mind angry /s and /t's you get, but usually those are from players getting farmed or just bad at their class. I love it when they accuse you of being a "haxxor"
because they died.. again and again.

It seems like what you experience is a lot of friendly banter with people you already know. Which your right is different then actual, rude **** talking.
