Well here's the thing: this isn't supposed to be a "Play it this way or you're a nub" kind of thing. Nobody's going to read this and say "You're right! I'm going to do things 100% your way, thanks Fukle!". Everyone plays different and has different niches for what they like to do, and some people just want to do what they do best. If this doesn't jive with how you want to play, then by all means ignore it. The reason I put this up is to put forth a strategy of tanking that I enjoy "Very Defensive" and how to play it.

It's a spec that I pretty much never see, but I feel is part of a balanced breakfast. As a part of a team, you can be a real asset, but it needs other playstyles to truly be effective.

Some of the points work in a general sense, some don't. If I'm lucky, the post may give folks some ideas of their own if they take what I've put forth and play it as their way. Or even better, maybe someone will come back with new ideas, new strategies. This community is an interesting mix of folks, and I'd like to hear more about how everyone approaches their class and battle strategy.

Oh, and also...

For example, keeping multiple sets on a character is hard to do, especially if you're an alt-aholic like me. I just keep my S&B set up and play my tank that way no matter the situation. I personally never play my tank as a dps class, instead I just focus on snaring my opponents, using challenge, punting healers or anyone off cliffs if I can if my weak punt (Chosen), and of course switch guards to anyone who is being targeted by the enemy faction.

Those who play 2H you must understand do themselves a disservice if they have to guard someone. The damage they take is too much then because they can't block the damage and will then take whatever the damage that the guarded target gets. I personally don't blame 2H tanks when they don't guard, because I know better... even if others choose to rage in frustration at the notion.

Though some tanks play their character as buff mdps, I don't really feel like it's a detriment to the team as much as a healer who goes dps spec when you only have one other healer in the scenario.
Agrot,

The OP is the same Arseface BO that continually punted our melee train target away from Brawndo and I in all those SCs yesterday. GG

EDIT Before it's said: Yes, I am a horrible Tank. The Worst. You can Burn me down in 2 seconds. Kill me FIRST to prove your point.

You sure about that? I'm level 10 and don't have a punt yet. That post is pulled from my old guild forums when I played on live.

Pen speaks the truth. I have two different sets, it's very easy with the sentry gear and the amount of gear that drops in pvp. sometimes you even have to go full retard (FO :P )

also, go in guarding mdps and float guard. it's really not that hard if you're paying attention.

switch guarded target , loooooooooooooool , this is the funniest thing i have ever read... people dont even use guard to its full benefit . second , exept for the veteran of live , lots of people come from other mmorpg , where u could be a warrior and outdps a rogue or be a healer and have more defense utility then a warriro class... thats why certain person will go IB 2 handed or BO 2 handed . Not everybody want to be a tank , but lot s of people want to play "TANK" class in dps mode , because they are appealing , and this is where this game failed . If a BO or IB want to go dps spec , he should be as effective as a WE , WH , or wtvr else u calling MDPS class , at least they should be equal at rank 40 (with the right specs.)

You think this private server Alpha version of a bugged out WAR is pulling the WoW kiddies by droves? I see plenty of guarded mdps and healers in SCs. The real issue with ORvR is the Management tool is bugged and unreliable. If it worked properly, even a PuG can set up groups to optimize guard and buffs etc.

I don't think the level 26s that are running around as tanks with a 2HW are going to be doing that in T4. I think many tanks stuck at 26/30 are bored to death and are toying with builds.
