Are +40RR RvR armor sets overpriced ?

You absolutely can get all your gear by RR80 from just PvP based gameplay. You have to optimize your purchase path a bit, and make sure you are hitting the event stuff every week if possible. Doing PvE is for optimization for max power at some pre-decided point in time, and some classes have legit best in slot that is gated by PvE, but all the PvP gear will get you what you need to be competitive.

I think part of a larger issue is, if you can get full SoV with crests by 77, why not buff crest gain? It's punishing anyone who wants to play Fashion Hammer and doesn't min/max along the way. And if you can't get enough crest for full SoV by 77, are armor sets entirely too expensive?

Sov is extremely easy to obtain now compared to 4 years ago. what is the fear in lowering armor prices/ buff crests? you still have to get 78 to wear it.

Since unified currently introduction ive never brought a single invader gear piece. Conquer gear brought only on my fist character cos didnt new the ward system well. Nowadays i buy only boots and gloves from AH. Only pvp set beside sov/triumph that i gather whole was vanquisher but i brought 2 pieces from AH and 2 from bags rest via crests.

Imo there are gearing problems that could easily be fixed.
Lower rr req on all gear from vanq/oppr and below. Make early not bis gear early accessable so ppl become earlier more competitive. Vanq is all around solid gear set and should be with rr req 45-50 max.
Alongside with that lower crest prices on all gear beside sov/triumph/oppr (like lower it by twice or even more) . Ppl will still need huge amounts of crestst get bis (25k or so crests) but at the same time while leveling you could buy the rvr sets. Atm pl just skip them by doing pve and these lower pvp sets are mainly unused. So by significantly lowering the prices many ppl struggling to find pve party and hating pve ingeneral could cheaply buy these sets without hugelly falling behind for bis gear grind
