Hiding the mmr might be a good idea to help some ppl to overcome their insecureness. Maybe even wins/losses or also the ladder till the end of the season (would be sad due to loss of competition, but whatever). But don“t remove the mmr mechanic (this includes 1000mmr barrier). Last season it was very noticable that the quality of the games greatly improved after you were above the 1000mmr barrier. That's the main issue, and the easier fix will be to get rid of MMR barrier for ring ; one insigna after each win, put the ring to 100 insigna and done.
Now you may have the needed critical mass to keep the thing alive and active.
Also, please hide the MMR :
1.it only serves the matchmaking process,
2.players generally will not care,they only want to see their rank in leaderboard (for final rewards and/or fame, to see their probable opponents, etc.)
This way you will have a less toxic and stressful experience for everyone, without the constant fear of losing MMR after one defeat (wich leads people to simply quit because they dont see their MMR going up - aggravated behavior by the current 1k barrier), but with - hopefully - enough participation in a regular basis to make the thing work on the long run.
Then, with anough people playing, the matchmaking system, helped with the (now hidden) MMR, will match players in more and more "balanced" matches ; strong 6v6 classes will play together, while other can encounter similar setups, limiting the "unbalanced feeling", and globally enhancing the general experience.
It's sad to say, but with such a small community, and class balance being what it is (much more fitted - ST - archetypes for smallscale), you need everyone to participate, not the most hardcore, experienced, or OP classes to get in.
Yes, it will include casual players.
Yes, it will include unfitted classes and less efficient builds.
Yes, matches will be less "competitive".
But it's sadly needed for ranked to be a thing. Otherwise people will still continue to dodge queue and wintrade with their 1-2 same groups on each realm...
