If, when RoR gains talismans and potions, entire classes or trees of classes are shut out
as a result of that, that's a problem with the minmaxing afforded by talismans and potions and not with the underlying design. You can't mess with the fundamentals to such a great extent and expect everything to still be balanced.

Operating on the assumption that we can't change the client, debuff types are fixed. It's therefore easier to address the root problem (group cleanse bullcrap).
