Im not sure the goal for the DEV team. If its to work towards a "full" MMO game with a traditional level system via PVE questing. If so, then I can see where we are at now, and eventually where we will be. Right now is just part of the "growing pains".
If that ISNT the goal, then I think there IS a much better system that could be employed... Mainly, leveling via PVP.
When I first started ROR, you could accept the "kill quests" from every tier. So I would take my lvl 7 (or whatever), go to all 3 zones (after getting a small amount of gold from a buddy) and accept the kill quests from all zones. Do an SC or RVR, complete them all and turn in ALL the quests for tons of EXP/Gold.
Now, the BIG problem we identified and changed with that system was the gold gain rate was too much and caused massive inflation, however... I think the "EXP" side of that was just fine. I could do 1-2 SCs and basically guarantee myself a level up.
This is the type of system I think could be improved. Maybe it comes in the form of the 50/50/50 kill quests. Take those, and beef up the EXP.
Take the Tier 1-3 Sc quests (the ones we accept at the beginning of the SC) and drastically increase the EXP earned for those so that doing SCs becomes one of THE BEST ways to level.
That (IMO) would help solve not only the lower tier RVR/SC population issues, but also a better leveling system for all players.
I think then, if its possible, to SKEW EXP based on players in a group, that would kill Pleveling. If, for instance, a lvl 40 and a lvl 10 are on a group and you kill a Champion or NPC, it would award say 80% of the EXP to the lvl 40 and only 20% to the lvl 10... I dunno if thats possible. Or maybe, you create an "exp penalty" that kicks in if you play with players OUTSIDE your "tier". SO the lvl 40, and lvl 10 party together, lvl 40 is outside the "tier" so any EXP earned is reduced by 25% or something... This hurts Power leveling.
But before you just "nerf" Pleveling, I think you need to ADD something so players have a real avenue to level... IMO

I disagree. I think the lower tiers are just as fun. I had a BLAST in all four tiers.. I think the problem is the EXP earn rate for lower tiers is too slow, compounded by the fact that if oyu have a 40, its likely you will just power level rather than play.Krima wrote:Completely dead...yes. Me and my brother other day were like..-"Hey lets roll a choppa and a magus for the fun"..we had a blast in t1!! and after that we just got back to our 40s because there was nothing to do.Danielle wrote:Actually I found leveling through RvR to be extremely fast, just find a buddy to duo/trio with or even a bunch of friends or a full group. My usual benchmark was that I want to have the RvR/scenario gear ready before I hit that level/RR required to use it. Some months ago when I was duo roaming in RvR T2-T3 with Witch Elf/Shaman duo with a friend this was already impossible. XP and RR gain under AAO was so massive I couldn't get medals fast enough to get the gear. Yes, sometimes it's hard to get kills when the enemy outnumbers your realm, but you are getting massively more rewards, and arguably more fun than they are getting from their RvE. Also, it's good practice for when you are roaming in a smaller group than most the enemies are in t4 later on. My big advantage was that I had an AM and my friend had a WH on Order so we could crossrealm if our realm was steamrolling. That being said late night NA I don't know how much activity there even is in t2-t3, is there anything at all or is it completely dead?
My guild have lost some newcomers menbers just because we dont have the time to P lvl anyone and we dont do P lvl ..In my opinion: Would be really good for the growth of the game to have a camp in IC for ex full of mobs that gives extra XP...like a farm spot..people can get to 40 in 1 day for example. This game is alll about T1 and T4...
I outlined my EXP via RVR/SC proposal above. The OTHER one I think that should be looked at is the earn rate of currency.
What I mean is currently you have to trade up at a 5:1 rate each tier. I think this is too steep a curve. You could farm 500 emblems/medals in tier 1 which translates to 100 tier 2, 25 tier 3 and a measly 5 tier 4.... Which gets you NOTHING.
What if INSTEAD of 5:1 for each tier, it were 5:1 for ANY tier. Meaning 500 tier 1 could be swapped for 100 tier 4.... Just ONE idea... I think this encourages more lower tier play. I think this is a "safe" proposal considering you cant do currency exchange into the Dominator "tier" of gear yet... So the best you can get would be trading up for Merc, which ISNT the BIS gear but it IS good tier 4 gear... Players wouldnt feel "the need" to rush to max level since farming lower currency isnt HORRIBLE towards getting max geared later.
So adjusting the currency, and EXP gain for RVR and SCs would create a MUCH more pleasant leveling experience overall, and likely increase population for lower tier that do PVP

It probably won't happen BUT letting people level ultra fast to r30 and separating T4 for r40 only would make sense imo. Right now rank 30-40 range is grey zone people grind through anyway. And it takes a while to level from 30 to 40 if you don't rush so promoting activity in that range would:Krima wrote:Completely dead...yes. Another huge problem thats happening is..as soon a player reach lvl 32 they que up for scenarios T4..they are completly useless 0 dmg, 0 heals. crap gear..Ive been in scenarios like BFB full of orders high RR players, and destro with 7 players lvl 32-35 jumping around. A fast lvl spot should solve that problem...Once a player reach 40 he can go get some green gear from vendor, place some talismans on it and start the grind to ANIH/MERC ..At least he is not useless in sce anymore..and can survive a little bit more.
Again! IMO,im talking NA time wise : whats happening right now is
lvls 1-15: Lots of fun !!
lvls 15-32: Completely dead...players beging for power lvling..many quit here. P lvl its a must
lvls 32-40: Que up for scenarios on white gear and wait to be carried.
- help people catch up their renown rank
- help them gear up before T4
- help them to figure out how to play their class properly - in t1-2 range they miss half of their tools.
I like the idea with kill quests and boosting scenario win xp rate also. Completely removing all kinds of grindable champs from orvr lakes without giving something in return is weird.

Re: I play late NA time, how do I level and not go crazy?
Yeah boosting SC xp would be amazing. We all know NA rvr is basically just Avocetti running around taking keeps with his warband b/c no one plays RVR on the destro side at that time.
But it only takes 12 people to get an SC going in which NA has many more SC players than RVR. I know the dev team in the past has stated that they don't really care about SC players despite quite a few balance changes which would say otherwise.
Why not try boosting SC xp? If you log in after 5-6pm on NA time you will see continuous "PLEVEL ME PLEASE" posts in advice and general until you log off, period. I get that t2-3 were merged but why not stream line the leveling process? I have T4's of everything I'll ever want to play but it seems like currently with a smaller NA group that the slow grind and zero rvr isn't very encouraging to get more Muricans to play.

This post deserves an A+.altharion1 wrote:Wow! Really? You've just told him that a legit leveling method is to not play the game. RIPwargrimnir wrote: Your alternative is probably to leave your mid-tier toons to accumulate rested XP and play on the weekends during the day where there is certainly enough activity to get through.
Leveling is terrible both EU and NA times, the more you ignore it, the fewer people will level. Thus you get stuck in a viscous circle of no one doing T2/3. This worsens the gameplay experience for both new and existing players.
You've got to be willing to make sacrifices that might go against developer philosophy and your overall idea of how the game should be played, to ensure the game remains fun. Consider that what you want to achieve with T2/3 may not be possible.
If people knew that they could get through T2/3 in a few evenings of light orvr action then so many more people would do it. Yes player turnover through the tiers would be much faster, but more people would be willing to come back and do it again and again.
Could not be stated more perfectly. Please - let go of any notions you're holding on to about old school leveling requirements and make the lower tiers an absolute lightning round for rank and renown leveling. make it solely in rvr if you want.. and capped at 40/40 (i.e. if you go to tiers 1, 2, or 3 after rank 40/rr40 then renown and xp are normal rate of return).
If you had the lower tiers act like lightning rods to make r40/rr40 toons you'd get more play in lower tiers as people play alts..and people would move into t4 much more rapidly.
as it stands now... you will lose any player that is not absolutely hardcore in love with the project before they even make it to t4 due to just boredom of not being able to level and play.
really really simple. just make the renown and rank xp gain from rvr in t1, t2, and t3 to be off the freaking charts.. (like you gain an entire level of rank and renown just by capping a BO) and watch as people roll alts and play those tiers - rapidly leveling to t4. once r40/rr40 rate of returns are discontinued.
try not to kill your server and population before it even has a chance to get to t4.

Re: I play late NA time, how do I level and not go crazy?
Not sure how many times we're going to say this, but grinding levels is not happening. We're going to continue putting nails in that coffin until it's dead-dead.
Leveling in RvR is not difficult. It's changing this damn mindset that RvR is dead, when the reality is that you have at least a warband on each realm that isn't doing anything because they're being taught that no one does RvR in mid-tier.
Is it the cluster of hot garbage that you get in Nordland? No.
Is it the mass blobbing of T4 RvR? No.
At best you have a couple groups that need to coordinate just to burn down the basic RvE elements, and respond quickly to enemy activity.
