Step 1: Cook two hot dogs
Step 2: Cut in half lengthwise
Step 3: Place on one piece of sandwich bread
Step 4: Cover with whatever condiments you prefer, or whatever happens to be handy that day
Step 5: Cover with second piece of bread
Step 6: Congratulate yourself for making a sandwich, then go play warhammer all night long

A hotdog is similar in terms of components to a sandwich but they cannot be used interchangeably.
A hoagie is a sandwich that is the closest to resembling a hotdog, but if I ever wanted a hotdog, I wouldn't ask for a hoagie... or vice versa.
That being said I consume neither because they don't fit my macros so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
