Inactive Players + Character Names

As far as I know, Taransula didn't get back to RoR because this problem. Another player have taken his witch elf's name. I'm happy I got my name at all, many ppl remember my char and this is very nice.

They did a name wipe for all perma-banned characters and (some?) characters from accounts that have not been logged in for a year or more when T4 was released.

Keep in mind, This sever has been open for over 2 years now. In many iterations which was capped at various Lvls for extended amounts of time in various horribly broken formats. This is an alpha after all.

So, it is to be assumed that people have come, played a bunch, and for whatever reason walked away for a bit. It would be great if when they thought to check back in to see the progress/get that itch, that their char is still there, with their name(they got it first), and hopefully they will stay... I know my friends list is filled with people I haven't seen in awhile. Most that I would be happy if that name was Green.

If you seriously wont play WARHAMMER ONLINE because you can't get the exact name you had... Oh well. Doesn't sound like you would be that dedicated anyways. There where a lot of servers all over the globe, and every player that wants too(and follows the rules I guess) can come and play. Just pick another name, or change it up a bit...

Several months ago, I did actually look into wiping the characters of any account that had not logged in within the last year.

The problem was, the game saves your last-logged time when you log out not when you log in. This is the better way to do it, as there could be an edge case where a player last logged in 366 days ago, but remained logged in for another 3 days straight. Sure, it's an unlikely and ridiculous edge case, but you don't mess around when deleting characters, especially those of players whom have committed no crime save than to become too disinterested or busy to play.

Anyway, the game saves the last-logged time when you log out. Which means it saves nothing if you crash. There are thousands if not tens of thousands of characters whom have been played very recently, but their last interaction with the server ended when their game crashed. So as a result, the last-logged time could not be considered reliable enough to use for wiping.

I don't remember if I changed that or not, but even if I did, it would take another year before we could get enough metrics to consider wiping again.

I played on Bleeding Hollow....you had to be a str8 asshole to play on that server. Zero fu*ks given. I seen about 15 variations Ghazghkull Thraka...who isn't even in this time period. I been using names since my DAOC days. ..How bout them doks named Drizzt huh. Destro by far is the worst with names.

He isnt even in the same Canon let alone time period XD gotta love 40k though but Ghaz is just a crappy Grimgor and Grukk Face-Rippa is making Ghaz look like **** as well now :3
