Fair point, but I play during NA primarily so ...yeah.Sigimund wrote:SC vs ORvR might have been a better comparison. PVE is far from polished atm.

Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
I wish I could put this quote into my signature, but it has way too much truth in it to fit.Sizer wrote:What do you mean by "new players"? Do you mean someone like yourself that has played the game before, but is starting with no gold and no leveled characters? Then sure, its fine, you already know how to play, so you just need to learn whats new, and where to make gold/buy gear, and so on.

Did you seriously open a thread to answer it yourself only to gripe more about NA pop?covenn wrote:I will take a stab at answering this first as I re-rolled order.
Sizer hit the nail on the head. And I think there is a guy who made YouTube videos explaining all of the stuff in game sizer. They are really well done. Watched a few the other day. Thread with them should be sticky imo.

Is the game itself new player friendly? **** no.
Is the community? All the **** yes.
With outdated resources that were never comprehensive to begin with, bugged quests and PvE content, and nearly no direction from the game itself as to what to do and where to go, I can see it being quite daunting for a player with no experience of WAR to start here.
Having said that. The community and the developers here are absolute gold. /advice chat will typically answer your questions within moments and I've yet to see anyone belittled for the most pedestrian of questions. Groups are easy to find in my experience and I've noticed that especially in the T1 RVR zones people will often trade you gear for your class and ask nothing in return.
Aside from the occasional banter between Order and Destruction I've even made a few friends from the opposite faction, our love of WAR and our joy at being able to play it again has made most of us just happy to see eachother.
Please don't be discouraged, create your first character RIGHT NOW and get stuck into it!

Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
I guess you make a fair point with that. We brought 15 or so complete and total virgins to the game when we rolled destro here, but even in that situation they still had people they knew who played the game that guided them through it all. So figuring it out is easily enough especially with the good advice I generally see people giving in channel. Getting to the point where you are and a level playing field can take quite a while when first starting out, but it isnt like it is asian mmo grindy.Sizer wrote:What do you mean by "new players"? Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
WAAAH! I play in NA time so it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to do anything! WAAAH! Then why do so many people have full top gear in NA? Also... STOP FARMING MOBS TO ''GEAR YOURSELF UP". Especially at lvl 6.. C'mon bro, you said you played this game? RvR or SC, and gain XP. That gear you spent an hour farming at low lvl? yea you could be lvl 15 by now. Super long story short though. ASK FOR HELP. Just remember to be polite, and I garuntee you will get it. Stuck at a super low lvl hating life? Ask for someone to powerlevel you sweetly. Super duper broke? Ask for an investment in the powerlvl of a fresh ally.
That is what I read from your long post covenn. And I think Tklees hit it perfectly. Did you seriously open a thread to answer it yourself only to gripe more about NA pop?
Early Dec there was an avg of 150 people online in NA times. It is getting SO MUCH BETTER IT IS SCARY!

Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
What exactly would be the point of complaining about NA population? It is not like anyone here can do anything actively to increase it outside of word of mouth, so to speak. Sorry you took it that way, but the only change that would even effect NA players is the medallion drop in scenarios, and its not like there were 5000 dropping per match. If you stop being a douche for a second and actually read what I wrote, it is pretty clear I am more concerned about players coming in and being able to compete so they dont get frustrated and leave ...so the population DOES grow.
Edit: Specifically the drop rates and income for new players

Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
Uh... They did. It was only 2 patchs ago that PvE even dropped blue or purp gear. (maybe 3 patches..), previous they only dropped in PvP.
Gold income was lowered from kill quests because it was a bug that allowed people to get 7+gold per 25 kills and all but destroyed the economy(hence 22 talis selling for 500 gold).
I did read what you wrote. Starting a new MMO isn't easy. It is grindy. If you got super powered items and all the gold you could ever spend easily and quickly, there would be 0 reason to stay active.
But my original point stands. Grinding for "best gear" at lower lvls is a waste of time imo. full purp gear at lvl 10 isn't as effective as simply lvling to lvl 20 and using RR gear. But, if you want to spent the time to be as super powered at every lvl/tier as theoretically possible, than that's on you.

Re: Is the game still new player friendly?
I agree that grinding for best gear at low levels is a complete and total waste of time. Not sure where I implied otherwise.
