Any system will be flawed, like it or not, even your proposal of hearing only the masterminds of their classes have serious flaws.

So like verything else, we will have to truck along and suffer the problems.

No you don't HAVE to. You CHOOSE to.

You could also CHOOSE to follow the balancing design of one of the best balanced games in the world.. SC2. You think blizzard balances SC2 based on an open-to-all forum?

SC2 has thousands of players, a solid competitive design / matchmaking and a much larger pool of professionals to draw from. Try taking the opinions of only the best players on a smaller project and you will quickly see things devolve into egotism and selfishness.

I saw it happen in another game's internal system - some of those players even talked to the developers like they were ****.

"one of the best", not "the best". thank you for proving my point though. It is the same company and balancing system that designed brood wars. No public forum was used... pro players and highest level of play only.

I'd take egotism over noobs any day. I don't think you fully appreciate the shitstorm that forum is going to generate. Everyone who's killed a mob or two is going to pretend to know something and they're going to try to pass it off as reasons to buff or nerf certain classes. Again, I refer to the KOTBS shatter enchantment thread.

They're almost as bad. Noobs give you irrelevant and badly considered opinions, egotists and selfish players distort the truth to benefit themselves.

Someone can be very good at the game and still be the exact kind of person you wouldn't want on a balance team. Equally, someone less able to play the game can understand it just fine as well.
