It might sound stupid, but isnt it possible to try making an agreement with EA about developing this private server legally. I mean, the project is closed however, and you might need to pay some % of profit to them or something, but why not give it shot just by, writing a good letter explaining a situation and create a good business plan and blah blah blah and just send it to their office, then see what happens?

Otherwise come on guys, there is ways to get at list some small charity from players without involving the project at all.

I have some ideas ,need to polish them a little...give me 1 month .

EA is only part of the problem. Arguably, they're less than half of the problem. The larger part is that this project uses IP belonging to Games Workshop, which reportedly charged a 7-figure licensing fee for the original game (five years of use, with restrictions on every aspect of development). The shutdown was primarily a question of cost-effectiveness. That is, it was not cost-effective to renew that licensing agreement with the ~50-100k subscribers the game had left come 2013Q1.

Meanwhile, we have roughly 2-3k active players. Even if everyone donated at least the cost of an annual subscription, and even if we had a few whales mixed in, it would still be impossible to get the numbers that EA/Mythic couldn't, using an outdated engine and outdated art and an unpaid volunteer staff.

Can we, at least pay for DDOS protection? We may create some kind of facebook group to coordinate it.
