I'm only writing this because having played on your server, it seems like you have a hell of a lot of work ahead of you (e.g. class mechanics not working like black orc's, doors not working....). Getting the source code from Games Workshop/EA seems more likely than you guys finishing the game by yourselves.
Also WoW sucks and I want to play WAR again.
Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source code?

Re: Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source c
wtf...stop this...Well I sent a linkedin message to James Casey (the game producer at the end) asking if he knows who to contact to buy the game rights. With Mythic closed and Warhammer Online's existence wiped from the Bioware forums/web it's pretty hard to find the identities / e-mails of the last devs working on Warhammer Online. Does anyone know who were the last devs and their e-mails?
IMO instead of kickstarting Mark Jacobs' MMO they should have just raised funds to buy Warhammer Online...

Yup. Lots of work to do but can't get a copy of the original source code.
It just can't happen.

Re: Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source c
If you continue acting of your own accord you risk not being able to play WAR at all. Bear that in mind.
Re: Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source c
Sadly i cant see that happening at all, Games workshop /EA or whoever knew fine rightly that a F2P would have saved the games population and brought many people back to the game and that would of brought back the huge amazing battles back in the good old days, but with no profit to be made they were not going to do it, they would rather shut the game down making no money rather than let many people enjoy themselves on f2p. Warhammer online has such a loyal fan base you dont need to look much further than this project to see that. We just gotta take the long road and enjoy what we have, and in itself thats better than nothing

Well as someone who knows a lot of people that pirate all their movies/musics/games (and have been pirating all through their teen life) I think you are overestimating how much companies care about people using their intellectual property.Azarael wrote:If you continue acting of your own accord you risk not being able to play WAR at all. I really think if you asked them for the code and were willing to pay for it (Kickstarter) they'd give it to you. I mean what other games will WAR be competing against? Space Hulk? Dawn of War (which btw they give away for free or for like $1 in humble bundle sales). That cancelled 40k MMO that died with THQ? That other P2W low-budget crap 40k MMO? There aren't any other Warhammer FB MMOs that will lose money because they gave away WAR's source code.
Furthermore there is proof that Games Workshop is willing to let people make total conversion mods from assets from their games. This mod has been up since 2012, been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times and is widely known and not hidden.

Oh and btw do you think Games Workshop can't use google to find your private server, and don't know that it exists? I say that you shouldn't bother hiding and if you're going to try to recreate WAR, go all in and ask for the code.
Re: Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source c
It's highly likely that they do know and are following the traditional policy on these matters: Ignore the project until it approaches the point of being fun / complete, then snipe it with a C&D to powerfully discourage any other developers from ever wasting their time trying to mess with the company's IP. Sega actually did this with a not-for-profit fan compilation of the ancient Streets of Rage series, and that was made for the Sega Mega Drive, a console older than dirt. They moved the very moment the project was completed.
Re: Why not just ask Games Workshop to give you the source c
So you just went on your own against the will of the devs and perhaps jeopardise the whole project? Not taking in account how well that worked out with Shadowbane, SWG or any other EMU out there. Ffs.

Well, I think we wouldn't need the private server at all if it was that simple. GW could just resell the IP or something. They didn't, so the game had to be winded up. If GW/EA/anyone responsible had cared for this game, the official servers would be still up. Al least that's what I think

Please, for the love of Asuryan, can't you dissociate from Kharn, Elven? He is sending PMs to all the wrong people LOL!!!
If he doesn't stop, this server is FINISHED! It'll know the meaning of the Elven word "Helcamar"(/shudder). Trust me, I mentioned Dyox's server before in few wrong places(back when it was known as APS) and it mysteriously vanished. It said sth about some internet treaty violation or sth like it.
REALLY, DON'T DO THIS!!!
