I stumbled onto this server from the Camelot unchained reddit and have played none stop since late November. CU is a good 12-18 months out and my original intention was to rock RoR until the cu release. Now I'm not so sure I'll even bother with another game. There is just something about war that supercedes better graphics and so called better game mechanics. Since war was my first mmo I left live thinking I would find the same experience with any mmo title. After spending significant time in RIFT, swotor, and gw2 I've come to realize that I could not have been more wrong with my original thinking. Coming back to RoR just feels like home warts and all. In fact those little issues that used to annoy the hell out of me now make me laugh at how insignificant they really were.
Anyone else rethinking cu or any other future title since playing on this server?

Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
I had active subscriptions in WoW, Rift, and ESO, while also playing GW2 & Wildstar on the side. I also just bought an XBOX with all of the new FPS games, Final Fantasy, and all the extras.
My fiance gives me a crazy look every night because of the "waste of money" for all of that just to spend all night in WAR.

Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
The only alternatives to playing WAR these days for me seem to be Vermintide and Total WAR.
This IP absolutely sucks you in, I hope I never get the urge to paint and build models, don't have the wallet for that.

Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
Yes. I am in the exact same boat, but I played Archeage and WoW instead of Rift. Before live got shut down, I pledge lifetime membership to CU. So far, it is pretty sad. I still hope it can deliver something close to WAR, but if this server can manage any decent T4 NA population and keep evolving like it has, I might just have to side-play CU as a break from RoR game.BrownStar wrote:I stumbled onto this server from the Camelot unchained reddit and have played none stop since late November. Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
I have heard many bad things about CU. This saddens me, DAoC was the first mmo I played (and then Shadowbane). What do you guys dislike aboot it?

Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
I think because its going to be something like 2-3 years past original projected release date? I think partially people are imagining bad things due to anxiety. There's actually so little finished in the game there really isn't all that much to hate. I will say I hate the building construction interface. Can't really be specific or anything. I got the lifetime sub and figured I'd be doing sweet beta testing by now. I've logged in maybe twice in the last year.GodlessCrom wrote:I have heard many bad things about CU. Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
I'm personally not a fan of the wildly modular combat mechanics they have created. It's an insane level of technical detail allowing them to do incredible things, but if they're not very particular about giving each class a unique feel it could quickly go the same route as every other bland and soulless cookie cutter MMO class system that's been done to death, although with fancier technical bits.
What makes WAR great for me is the fact that each class is so damn unique. If we were to totally mirror (or to the best that we possibly could) each class in WAR, they would be little more than reskins. Like most MMO's, same class on both sides. Just a reskin. Or worse, literally the same class with a different race. Because Cow paladins and Dwarf paladins and spacegoat paladins are totally the same class right... kek

This is a good way to frame it and it speaks to an anxiety that I hadn't fully thought through. I sense a big disconnect between what they've shown of the combat system/ability creation and how the classes could then have the unique mechanics as detailed in the class descriptions. But if they can actually create unique mechanics for each class combined with the tools to highly customize each ability within the mechanic, the game could be...game changing.wargrimnir wrote:I'm personally not a fan of the wildly modular combat mechanics they have created. Re: RoR Making Me Rethink CU
sy but for what i say the only tank which i m able to call tank is in warhammer only, duable + chance to lower dmg (guard) are staple in war, most of pvp games doesn't have such feature; this do not remove anyway the chance that you can go offensive.porkstar wrote:This is a good way to frame it and it speaks to an anxiety that I hadn't fully thought through. It really a high finish line for all the tank concept also whatever the reason his the ror graphic is in a good spot between the toon and reality (regarding fantasy and the IP). For what i saw from CU it feel going on the same road of GW2 at the time plus more complex stuff; tough the enviroment that can change and be rebuild if the combat system is not satisfattory or anyway you wana be X and cannot feel X because in game restriction then ppl will pass the game, war i unique becase regardless interation you feel exatly to be what you are playing.
