I don't think lifetap healing is suppose to be a main healing spec. It's a support spec and a tool that can be used if the conditions are right. It can be a main healing spec if the conditions are correct and you have the correct gear for the situations but most of the time it is un-needed. I will quickly point out where lifetaps were very useful/superior to traditional healing spec's using the old keep mechanic's.
Old Keep mechanic's.
You used to be able to hit the door. To my knowledge the keep mechanic's have never changed throughout the life of AoR. Only in RoR has the keep mechanic's changed drastically. Yes the RvR system changed quite a bit and the keep lord changed but not the keep mechanic's in AoR. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I want accurate information.
Old keep mechanic's worked where the attacker would be able to gain morale by attacking the door. The defender would also gain morale because the keep's door is being attacked. This is SUPER important from a game mechanic's perspective and causes a lot of mechanic issue's.
You have abilities that apply additional affect's but require's that you actually hit something. If you can't reliably hit something you can't reliably push out your buff's. By removing the ability to hit the door your removing a ton of ability buff's that could be applied to your groups.
Ok back onto lifetaping. You have mdps player's (used to be unique to only WH/WE) that can bypass the postern door and get on the ramparts. You can only AoE heal player's on the ramparts. This is not the case for lifetap healing. Lifetap's are not dependant on Line of sight to support their defensive target like traditional healing spec's are. You could lifetap heal player's by hitting the door and provide supporting heals.
Vaul/Da Green shaman's can debuff player's on the rampart's at full value. You can't debuff player's at full value with chosen's or knights because they can't get on the ramparts to debuff.
I think lifetap's are suppose to be part of a keep offense and your suppose to assist player's up on the ramparts via lifetaping be that player's on the ramparts or the reliable keep door which has been taken away.
I'm not saying lifetap healing is Purely about keep offenses. I am saying that a large portion of that spec line's seems to fall into this category. Like 40% of lifetap healing purposes is about keep offenses. The other 60% is for other purposes.
Player's don't really switch spec's super often to fit the situation your in. I don't understand why not thou. If you know your going to conduct a keep offense you can switch spec's to assist in a rampart rampage party. You have a career trainer at the friendly keep in zone. You can do a gear swap/ tactic slot swap/ and spec swap all super quick in under like 2 minutes if you know what your doing and have a preset plan to switch. Switchin spec's have always been super cheap in this game. Gold is also plentiful.
I want to write a lot more but I'm trying to keep this short and not drown you in text.
Lifetaps and Old Keep Mechanic's.
