Basic gearing guide for newer level 40?

Hello friends!

So I have the basics down for gearing my 37 SnB Chosen. Right now I have Ruin/Annihilator with basic renown jewelry and weapon/shield. I understand that because of the new system I’ll have to buy the other token sets in order anyways.

But before I spend any more of my tokens on shields/weapons I was wondering if there wasn’t some easily obtained pve weapon I could get at 40? Can I run high end dungeons for gear right when I hit 40?

And which genesis jewelry set should I go for? The one with wounds bonus or hp/sec bonus?

Are there other gearing systems I should be aware of?

The fastest way to get gear right now is to unlock the armor wards via pve.
You will get decent weapons and shields through pve aswell. But if your gear is low and you dont know the dungeon mechanics it will be hard for you to be maintank for pve. So the best advice i can give is to join a active guild once you hit lvl 40 and try to get some help.

First dungeon is gunbad. You will get lvl 40 purple weapons and shield (madcap weapons) they are quite decent. If you get full armor set (redeye) you should be able to tank the city dungeons (in chat always called bbbe). The set from city dungeons is an offtank set though and in order to tank the highest dungeon (bastion stair - bs) you need vanq gear or higher. BS set (Bloodlord) will give you the invader ward unlock, so in theory with some help you can skip all t4 pvp sets and save all war crest for the highes armor set (Sovereign Set). As for genesis - defensive go for thoughness one with +% block on it, as a chosen your block chance is rather low compared to bo and bg. This makes tanking in low gear more difficult for chosen aswell.

If you can afford conq gear you should be able to maintank gunbad and bbbe. Talis for pve should be wounds or armor. Thoughness is useless in pve.
(Ravack's Changehide is blue cloak with 2% block (cheapest atm 60g in ah, i got mine for 15g), Rough Gunbad Diamond gives you 2% block (15g ah, or you wait till it drops in gb)
Tactic for tanking would be "Menance" (100% more aggro), Mixed Defenses (Block increases your parrry by 25% from mid tree), "Destined for Victory" (get morale on Block). 4th tacctic you can take "Flawless armor" (-10% chance to be crit) if your rr is low and you need it (or get more "Furtile Strikes" from reknown trainer, you need your chance to be critically hit below 0) or "Chaotic Advantage (gives you 75ap on parry).
For Bs you can euqip sent set and Hand of Malal (Greatsword form city dungeons) and try to find a group as the off tank. Bloodlord is an Offtank set, it has high armor stats and a good amount of initative, with 6 pieces Bloodlord and 2 pieces sent you can be a decent offtank. you can go 7 pieces Bloodlord stack it with toughness talismans and equipp a shield, too. This will be an "ok" option for a deftank in pvp.

If you are unlucky with the drops in dungeons you will need a max of 3xgb, 4xbbbe and 4xbs to get all sets. Gb takes about 1-2h, bbbe 40-90mins, bs 2-3h (depends heavily on the group). Timeout is about 1 day, so in theory you can get invader level gear in 4 days.
Offcourse you can buy vanq or invader but if you skip them you will save more then 5000 warcrest.
