As an example for today's city siege, the day before was a buildup in T4 maps and a stalemate in one T4 map for half of a day. I played a few hours of T4 Siege and a Fort to help get city event started. I woke up today super early to check the state of the stalemate T4 map, just in time I catch the last 5 minutes of Lord dieing, and then the tie-breaker Fort begins. I'm not reserved a spot so I choose to wait, checking back every 5 or 10 minutes of the status because I want to play city. I come back and the server is shut down, and I have no clue what is going on. I checked every minute for 15 minutes expecting a quick reboot for city, but I gave up expecting it to be a long maintenance. I come back about 40 minutes later expecting City signups to be on and queue. I was probably a few minutes late, there were 26 instances and 1 finished already.
Having spent time to help kick-off City Event, I was unable to reap any endgame reward from what I had earlier sown, as this is the only feasible way to gain Royal Crests. Can you just increase the signup timer by 15-30 minutes? Having such a small window for what takes days to unlock endgame currency rewards seems slightly unfair. I say this as a solo player who doesn't play with friends or guilds who frequent Discord so they can stop whatever they were doing because someone said to them "City is starting". Its easy to be able to jump on at 5 am in the current times but when normalcy returns the time-window for having access to end game content is going to be ever so slimmer (especially for NA players who can't sync with EU players who force T4->Fort with their zergs). That would mean I miss 80%+ of all City events because I can only play in a 4 hour time window (when normalcy returns).
I've given the logic as to why, so please consider it if this is an easy variable adjustment.
Or - at least consider this. If, such as the case today, the server were to crash when the 3rd Fort finished, please wait 10-15 minutes before activating City signups, because it takes time for players to log back in and re-orient themselves. I used to help host 200 man events in another game, and we would never start a map instantly after a server crash. We would notify players "Server crashed, event starting in 5 minutes". To get all 200 back on takes a while, especially for the last trickle. Imagine if there are 1,400 players that crashed.

Sure I had 40 minutes, but did I have 40 minutes after the server crashed? I didn't know if the Fort even finished for that matter, because I didn't get to see it finish as I was afk waiting for Fort to end because I was not allowed into Fort. Not only was I waiting for Fort to end, but I was waiting for the server to restart, which took way longer than 10 minutes.

I know it's not the most ideal, but if you're in a guild that uses some form of messaging app, albeit it discord, slack, whatsapp, telegram etc. I would try and set up something where people online can ping and just spam you notifications.
It's not the most elegant solution, but it works for people that I know (even going as far as to calling people internationally to wake them up). Other than that, you can probably check twitch for ROR streams every so often and hope at least one streamer has state of the realm up.

First off all. The Timer to queue up and enter the city is 40 minutes in total. I think that is long enough.
Second. The devs made it clear that they won't make adjustments in city siege for solo player since it is the endgame of an RvR game. If you want endgame gear look for a guild.
Third. What is "back to normalcy"? Explain that to essential worker like me...
Because of my work and playing times I have made my peace with the fact that none of my characters will ever wear Invader or Souv. Sorry that I don't have any pity for you in these harsh times because you missed a city.
In the end this is endgame content in a competitive RvR game and they made it clear that it won't be easy to obtain. Espacially for solo players. So i suggest looking for a guild

I'm not looking for a guild, I don't really want to interact with people, I just want to sit back and enjoy the action. I will tolerate listening to a leader give commands, but I am not in the mood to be in a guild at this time. It puts me at a disadvantage, so be it.

I know I'm going to take flak because by nature people will defend the status quo of whatever it is and oppose most suggestions. Please consider bumping it just a little to accommodate non-hardcore endgame guzzlers. We know what happens to playerbases if dev's only care about hardcore endgame players. I put my opinions out there.

Okay I reconsidered and made a decision although based on what you posted in another topic.
Stop whining because you missed one stupid city. I missed a lot more because I couldn't effort to stay up 2 hours longer on workdays to go to city.
This is a private server and not everything is running like it should be. Some things like a crashing server happen. And when the server was back on you had the full 40 minutes like you always have. It was just bad timing. Ppl need to accept that and stop whining about things like this

Yes, Yes anarchy, I would keep asking because you totally want to conflate my suggestion because you prefer the status quo because status quo. When they adjust signup to 1 hour, and I miss the next one after not having contributed anything at all in T1-T4 maps or Forts, I'm going to ask they extend it to 2 hours, and repeat until its a 24 hour signup period. Everything is grey, therefore there are no suggestions. Great community guys, really enjoying this conversation that I'm having with you fellow members. I would really enjoy talking to you in Discord.
