No but thats an important sentiment. If you cared about realm pride you wouldn't show such contempt towards it. Even going so far as to link realm pride to just being RP. Realm pride is the only thing that makes rvr better than crappy mobas or pvp. Otherwise were just a bunch of mercenaries and you can get that in any pvp game.

As long as theres xchat you cant have player drops. Kill swapping would be out of control if the social feel of rvr is kept. Personally I think player drops and rvr locks are a much better incentive to pvp than xchat that encourages a far less competitive environment/

Dont just think of mindless zerg fights. What of those that spent weeks of real life leveling zones. Particularly when previous tiers contributed. Ive done my fair share of it. Taking bos at the arse end of marshes of madness just because its for the realm. Fighting lone chosen over some random flag in a lighthouse in barak varr. Reason. I dont want des to get it. Without realms we have nothing just zerging each others warcamps. Without realms WAR loses all these other moments. Would being able to chat to that chosen make it better. No the silence of the enemy made it what it was. The indifference of war. Did they hate me did they rage behind the screen. We could respect each other but we knew we were enemies.

Those moments of frantic preperation when the enemy were coming to the keep. The region chat calling for shield walls. The silence of the single enemy that jumps you in that empty uncontested lake. These are the extremes of this game.
Not full of chatty mcchattersons.

Realm pride is an empty phrase, when one faction has high AAO all the time and players of the bigger faction have to stay strict on their side because of some unwritten rule.

It is a game! Talking with enemy players, moving on their TS or something like that, doesn't stop you from killing them on the battlefield! Building a friendship with the person behind the enemy character does not remove the incentive to kill them.
Dying is no option.

If realm pride is an empty phrase to you. Im sorry you never really experienced the game for what it was.
Talking with the enemy in the actual game does remove that sulorie. It removes alot of it. The enemy is not your friend. If they are then you cant experience the game at the same level. Ive killed people in this version of the game to have them just before they died type "NOOB". That just **** kills any sense of WAR for me. A Chosen to type "NOOB". Really how am I supposed to respect the enemy then. Just kills any sense of Warhammer if a Chosen says "NOOB". Might as well rip out the IP have pandas and pretend its wow.

If WAR had built on that immersion instead of catering to the zergers then WAR would still be around now. The IP was the saving grace of this game and is still what most people look back on as being the most wasted.

So you prefer to play the superior faction because by some reason it was the faction you took first?
Realm pride is worth nothing, when it removes the fun in rvr, because people refuse to fix imbalances by staying true to their faction.

I changed faction a couple of times. I mained a dok at launch. Also faction swapping did nothing to help balance as most people just switched based on lockouts, another casualty to lack of realm pride, so one side zerged city then it switched when enough had got their shinnies. It might not have been balanced if people stayed true but it would have been alot better than all those switching to the zerg to push city for loots. We just ended up with both sides unbalanced at different times.

Slow faction swapping as the server evolves is preferable to uncontrolled immediate swapping based on lockouts. Mythic admittedly handled it terribly and should have given a lot more incentive to rolling and sticking to the outnumbered side than they did. Its just another example of why giving the players what they think they want is bad for the game. All players are is renown and gear junkies. They dont actually know what's best for them.

This happens with or without cross-faction chat. Generally people only care about imbalance when it negatively affects them, and since an issue overpowering one realm will never affect that realm negatively... we get the kind of absolute stupidity common to all MMO forums.

It does affect you negatively. Zerging down one faction gives little renown for the bigger realm, when many players compete for a few enemy targets.
The smaller faction had more targets, had AAO bonus and "loser locks". Every kill made was worth more renown than zerging a dozen players.
This was the time, when playing in a group was fun.
Standing at keeps and waiting for the door to open was boring.

I fully agree that written text in all public channels should stay exclusive to your own realm. I just see no point in /whisper chat being the same.

At this stage in the game, I would personally support your proposition. Whisper chat is cumbersome enough to avoid Chathammer while preserving necessary collusion (for testing, etc.) However, Telen's points would still be valid if, in the final game, you were able to PM the opposite realm. It would be used as a vector for butthurt and rage. A certain element of dehumanization is a good thing in games like this, and being able to communicate with the enemy breaks that.

When I spoke about negative effect, I was more referring to more glaring issues like suffering under the heel of overpowered classes. There are plenty of people who, in situations where they have an unfair advantage, will start trolling about how awesome and skilled they are and how anyone who thinks there's a problem is just QQing, cry more, etc rather than placing the blame on the advantage which is causing the other side to quit en masse.

Well I think really butthurt players would just swap faction to insult you, like they did on live. :D
Where is the fun, when you never see the rage, while they outnumber you.
