Donate for a private server for a dead game= law infringement.
Donate for a legal server for a dead game= completely okay.

Anyway I would totally donate server upkeep or emulator improvements, as long as GW or whoever owns the IP doesn't get hurt in any way by this project and the ones who keep the server don't spend money on personal stuff.

Update.

From what I can see there's either a memory leak or terrible memory management somewhere. When the server's restarted, memory usage is about 33%, and it steadily climbs to 97%, at which point I assume there's a ton of paging and the server bogs. As every region gets affected by the lag, I'm assuming this is the issue. Will try to sort it soon.

Why donations are not possible? Of course if we do that in legal way, would be a problem. But let's be smarter! Everything that is not allowed can be allowed, if you do that in correct way. We can give money to people just as benefit. Not as donation, so no one can accuse you in anything... Its important to know the law, to bypass it

The owners of the IP have every right to shut it down. They do not need a reason to do this.

If they see any money coming into this project, or anything associated with it (like our server hosts) because of people who intend to support the project, what do you think they will do? Verify our transactions (thus providing tacit support for what we do)? Or shut us down?

It's pointless even to discuss this, because our policy is set in stone.

GW could shut it down tomorrow. That its not making money just makes it not worth their time.

They have also proved to be real cunts over it in the past.

Well, just make an account of paypal from different IP and so on. They cannot have transfactions of that. They are third person in this case. Its like i just give money to my friend, not for working on war, but just because i want. Nothing illegal in that and noone of them can know this. they cannot have access to transactions of PP.

well since the server (hardware) is not the problem its pointless to talk about it anyway

the code got some issues that are unfortunately hard to figure out we might need to do some debug sessions on the live server to find them since on our local dev servers wit max 10 ppl on these issues never appear
