Give this thread a read through when you have time, it will give you some really good insight into what Black Orcs can do.

While Black Orcs are the real damage dealing tanks of Destro, it’s important to remember that you are a tank first and not in the same realms as a real melee DPS like Mara/Choppa. You can do some great damage yourself, but your role as a tank should always be priority. You should always assist off your melee DPS you are guarding, float guard to those in need, peel off if you have to, always challenge, know when is a good time to use your punt etc.

Black Orcs are the least tanky of tanks I’ve found, but that is not to say they can't furfill their roles. Your base/gain initiative is the worst of all the tanks, so it’s important you boost your reduction to be crit % with things like gear, renown (futile strikes) and getting the most from your stat steal bellow which can (unreliably) give you 120 initiative. Personally I don’t like going all the way up the middle tree for CHM since it’s such a heavy investment for an average Wall of Darting Steel knockoff. The 60% self-snare really kills it for me since I always felt the need to be mobile, especially if you are chasing/running away.

THC/Skull Thumper/Loudmouth are your bread and butter damage skills. It’s been said before but I’ll say it again, the stat steal + THC damage is enough reason to almost always level up the Brawler tree to maximise their benefits to yourself and your group mates. Some might say that being tankier = more time killing stuff. But I’m of the school that likes to have a bit of damage to smack people who think they can just ignore you, so my hybrid build is kind of in-between with around unbuffed 700STR, 600 Toughness (when running Rugged), 380 WS and that is just SnB. And if they are not ignoring you and hitting you instead of your guarded target, then that’s a bonus in my eyes since I am already tanky enough to withstand whatever they have to throw at me thanks to solid renown investment in Block/Parry and you can boost your dodge/disrupt with Hold The Line.

I’d recommend avoiding 2H until you are really kitted out, since your ways to boost parry isn’t that great and it’s like a big neon target above your head inviting range DPS to eat you. It also means to lose out on You Seez Me Block Dat tactic and Hold The Line which are some of your best tools to utilise in RvR/SC.

Small scale roaming build – Makes use of Loudmouth/THC/Gork Smash for small scale engagements. Stick with your guarded target to burst down targets with big physical damage. Talk with your group mates to see if they want a KD or the snare. I feel it’s good to have a KD since Destro always seem to be lacking them and in small scale the aoe snare is less important.

RvR build – Take wounds over toughness, utilise your morale pump, aoe snare, watch melee trains die a painful death perma snared by 40%.

RvR Bomb build – One of the best Corp Debuffs in the game, will make your Skull Thumper really hurt and Sorcs will love you. Combine it alongside your aoe snare + morale pump + Raze/Deafening Bellow for big damage.

Funny tri-spec build for being an annoying bastard – Self-explanatory, you get a bit of everything at the cost of not taking THC. Not in da Face is mandatory whenever going up the Brawler tree since you lack a heal debuff of any kind and the cooldown increaser can really mess with certain targets, namely White Lions and all healer classes.
