Progression Efficiency

Hello all! New to RoR and loving it. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this great project.

Feel free to berate me if this has been posted in an obvious place. I have never played WAR before, and progression in this game confuses me. Traditional questing seems very slow. In addition, it is downright unpleasant on a solo Sorceress. RVR is great fun but likewise slow to rank up. Is there a faster way to gain experience in this game? I've tried Scenarios, and they are the fastest method I've attempted.

Thanks for your replies, and apologies if I missed this spelt out elsewhere.

There really isn't one. Grinding is probably the fastest, particularly AOE, but only a couple classes can do that.

For some reason people are very reluctant to make leveling not a tedious chore. If you think regular rank is bad, just wait until you get to T4 but are still stuck at low RR levels.

Ideally you want to keep your renown as high as possible...which means going semi-afk on BOs in t1- it's boring but you'll hit t2-4 with a renown rank of about 20-25~ takes about 2-3 days.
Renown (purple bar) grants you access to gear and points that you can spend on stats- so it's important.
Exp comes by pretty slowly and takes a while to level now. There is no shortcut- it's just grinding the same mobs over and over and over- quests are only for lore as they tend to give less exp than a one mob kill. After you hit r20 or so- it should take you about ~1 hour-1 and 1/12 per rank.

you basically chose the worst class to solo on the side with worst solo classes facing a side with better solo classes.

Both BW and Sorc suffer from literally blowing themselves up, but whilst BW can stay at relatively kiting safety distance and has ranged Knockdown for that solo gameplay, Sorc lacks that and has to face WLs which are on purpose designed to hunt down Destro casters and backliners with their Pounces.

If you like Sorc mechanic, but want to have it less brutally challenging, try a BW - they can get better strikethrough to combat all the Disrupts in the game, have access to self cleanse, self armour buff and get that juicy ranged knockdown if you insist on playing solo.

As for maximizing XP gains, find a good party with tank-healer-dps and start grinding some public quests that have mobs 2-3 levels higher than you, then keep on moving to the next PQ as you slowly rank up.

Scenarios are a good way to gain xp, if you win. But it is also important to have an as high as possible renown-rank. For this I advise RvR. You get a bolster as lvl 16, from which on you can participate the T2-T4 RvR fights. As Solo-Sorc you should do some zerg-surfing (at best with aao). Should be fairly easy to get a good amount of renown-point.

So did I make a mistake by rolling Sorcerer? Why is this class in the game?

No. Sorc is a perfectly fine class, but it will not be an easy class to solo with. You know how some MMOs will list classes based on their skill level? It's kinda like that.. where the sorc isn't a super new-player-friendly class. Something like Marauder, Squig Herder, Zealot, or Chosen is more forgiving/has a higher skill floor/better for new players.

3 challenges of playing solo:

1. Need above average risk assessment.
2. Need above average position management.
3. Need above average efficiency with rotations/which abilities to use.

Otherwise you are food.
Its all experience and time in game. Lots of time. No way round that. Need some skill too (try to be honest with yourself, stick in groups if you're average).
