Hello all,
I am a bit in a conundrum in figuring out what's best in slot for a Magus. I am currently using 5/5 Ruin set with the Demonsoul staff from Annihilation Epic Quest, however I wonder if it is best to go after Mercenary gear? With merc gear, you get 3% more crit chance and +62 more intel than with annihilator gear. Anni gear will give you +62 toughness compared to merc gear. And that's pretty much it.
If you play your magus as a DPS, go for merc. If you play a rift magus, go for annihilator.
So I guess BiS gear for magus is mercenary, and the T4 inf dwarf staff.

I do play my Magus more as a RDPS role, so I'll keep my eye out on getting Merc set. How does Merc Gear compare to Full Ruin set in terms of stats? I know with Ruin set it gives some pretty decent set stats such as +55 int, +296 Spirit Resist, +1 path of changing, and 55 toughness (I'm sure there's one more stat I am missing in this).

full merc, dwarf inf staff/sc staff/gutslime staff (in that order), jewels either boundless +32 ints or a mixture of 20/20. have at least 1 +2morale jewel, though. crit cloak.
you need as much crit as possible, which is why the 5 set bonus on merc is essential - not to mention the point it gives in Havoc.
you want to put at least 30 points into crit - preferably 45 at high rr.
glean magic and pandemonium will not kill well-played, guarded and healed players, neither will the surging insanity tactic. your spec is good, but don't bother with firestorm unless you got spare rr (which I doubt). main dots to use are withered and baleful which deal very good damage. MBF is situational but has its uses, and Infernal blast should always be used when within range as it benefits from 50% crit dmg.
bolt of change, indigo, havoc crit, perils of the warp. get the range if you want, but realistically in RvR you'll want instapet. other essential tactics are surging power, havoc unleashed, endless knowledge for super crits. you can swap out endless for daemonic reach when stronger gear sets arrive.
if playing 6v6, swap out endless knowledge or instapet/reach for 15% withered soul tactic. hugely benefits the whole group.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... DkdKo/editI did not know Mercenary had a set bonus. I was looking it over in the Officer Emblem vendor and saw no set bonus for it (Unless it's a graphical glitch). Definitely will need to look into Merc gear then.
