Seems to me that subjectively determining who played strategically and skillfull in RvR and giving them rewards would just cause trouble and whine. :>

Hence why appearance gear that was only rewarded for epic effort in the lakes, which only lasted a few days before expiring, which had zero function beyond a cosmetic recognition for a well played battle, could be handed out on a purely subjective basis.
