Re: Why I did not realized that I am a tester of ROR

Ive only been back playing a few weeks and I always have a notepad file to tab out to. I spend an hour in the lakes and then an hour doing pve quests. I have the addon kill tracker open to see what each mob I killed is tracked as and tome titan for all the ToK unlocks. I note down every quest or pq that isnt working, each ToK unlock thats broken, every double spawn, every wrong spawn location, every wrong mob type, every wrong model. This is why the devs removed rats. There are loads of these out in the zones and no ones looking. When I finish elf I'll put them all up on bugtracker.

The question of what is this alpha beta or charlie. Its an alpha. Ive been in alphas before and they dont have all the game mechanics yet. Like RoR. Those players that dont understand the unwritten contract the community has with the devs on a private server like this then no highlighting this will change their attitudes.

Many players definitely do not think of themselves as testers, rather than players. You see it all the time when players complain about wipes and ask for reimburstments, or threaten to leave the server and never come back.

And then there is me who realizes we are testers but do very little in terms of contribution. I guess I should dedicate some time for bug hunting.

I think the reason why some/most players don't realize/forget they are playing on an alpha stage server is simply: the visuals, audio etc. are all handled by the client and look very complete (as complete as 1.4.8 was). Therefore, when people login the first time without any further knowledge about this project, they get a very complete impression of the game.

Most people can't distinguish betwen the "complete" client and the incomplete server, or the difference between server- and clientside code.
I wouldn't be surprised if some think "Why do all the (fx-)effects work, when muh ability is buggy and doesn't do enough damage. Why don't they fix all the abilities first before adding fancy effects?"
